The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
I would rather see them nail Brain of J. or Hail, Hail or Immortality or Insignificance or I Got Shit for Xth time than watch them fumble through Sweet Lew or Bee Girl or some other dumb fucking song just cause I haven't seen them play it before. In fact, other than Undone and Swallowed Whole there's probably not a single song I haven't heard them play that I would be genuinely excited to hear, but there's a long list of stuff I've seen them play plenty of times that I'd be thrilled to see them play WELL.
I agree to an extent. I'd rather hear the sloppiest rarity than just about any cover song or mega hit.
Pearl Jam's flaws / flubs are what makes Pearl Jam, Pearl Jam.
More times than not, song performances aren't as good or bad as the internet makes them out to be.

Regardless of what they play, they should just be well rehearsed.
Chud is so right about this.
THIS
I can't side when people are like "OMG FUCKING GOD THEY PLAYED OTHERSIDE"
it sounded like total fucking shit.
It wasn't great, but it wasn't close to "total fucking shit," either. Especially if you were there, you know, hearing it live. I think you guys are mixing up going to a show and listening to a fucking bootleg. A bootleg. Not even a live album. The diversity of setlists is the only reason I would ever think about going to another show. If I knew they were just gonna play the hits, why would I bother? Answer: I wouldn't.
Sorry, I disagree, maybe I went overboard with Otherside. But the bootleg is the source. It's going to the massage parlor with the lights on and see how ugly the asian lady really is before she gives you a happy ending. Being at the show and hearing it, that's going in the dark.
You don't have to apologize for disagreeing. But you should probably just leave the lights off, if it's a happy ending you're really looking for.

I like Pearl Jam because they play poorly and that's what makes them unique!
Not perfect is what I was going for. Not poor. I don't want to hear a studio-esque version of any song.
im not sure what "perfect" is when it comes to rock n roll songs. is it the studio version of a song? the best live version? i remember reading a quote from one of the guys in mmj about writing songs. he basically said you write them, record them, then take them on the road and let them evolve. i think stone also talked about playing live v. in the studio on one of the LB interviews.
also, i think ed screws up the lyrics to NAIS at detroit in 2000 and it ends up being the best version i ever heard. where is strat when you need him?

Not all flaws are created equal, guys. At Detroit 2000 Ed fucks up the lyrics to NAIS but the band churns along beautifully, and everyone stays in time. And Ed recovers, resyncs himself, and then makes up for it.
That's not the norm, at least for modern Pearl Jam. A lot of the time their fuck ups sound like no one in the band is paying attention to each other.

any examples from the last tour? otherside sounds like it wasnt great
also, as far as the original post, i think for the most part they play their best live songs the most (dte, gtf, alive, go, corduroy, etc.) i just didnt realize all these songs were on RVM-greatest hits

really? well get on it and report back! lol ur not buying the ones you were at?
I just don't care. There aren't any new songs that they've played that I need to hear live recordings of, so I'll just stick to the recordings from the years when they were more consistently good.
Honestly, I haven't listened to a single 2013 bootleg.
You are being very critical AND you haven't bothered to listed to a show. Are you serious? So are you basing your opinion off of other's opinions or your opinion of past PJ tours?

I'm just assuming the quality level of the last five years has continued through the 2013 tour. Seeing the shows live certainly sounded pretty much the same.

Also, like I said, I went to three shows this tour. So I can say with some credibility that it's same old same old as far as these guys have been going.

The "snowball effect" is one of my least favorite traits of the live PJ community. People piggyback on what's good or what's bad without actually coming to conclusions on their own (I.e. Atlanta 94 best ever, any popular show from the last 10 years sux). Again, shows and songs aren't nearly as good or bad as the internet make them out to be.
If you aren't overly critical about something you tend to enjoy it more.

I still listen to every show, It still gives me the kid at the candy store feel still. Usually I sit back in my mancave on a friday night, throw it on the computer, hook up my good speakers and relax.
