I was just listening to the Benaroya boot this morning and looking at the packaging, I noticed the setlist had "I've Been Everywhere," made famous by Johnny Cash, on it, thought it wasn't played. This reminded me of seeing a cover of Stereolab's "Noise of Carpet" on a 2000 setlist (Dallas, I think?). What other songs have appeared on setlists or soundcheck but were never played?

They've never played this as a straight cover, though it was a pretty regular Daughter tag between 1996 and 2000.

Exactly, which was why it was so intriguing to see it on the setlist not as a tag but by itself, even though they ultimately didn't play it.

Oh I see - I misunderstood you.

They soundchecked Noise of Carpet at Cuyahoga Falls in 1998. I don't think there's a great recording of it anywhere, but you can hear it here: https://tinyurl.com/jvtcd5

Wow, I had absolutely no idea they'd ever attempted the full song!

This is nuts.

Wow! Thanks for sharing. Pretty cool to hear them attempted. I think they should have changed the key for Ed to sing a little higher in his register. I will send them a note.

This is nuts.

I remember setlist-watching back in '98 and someone said they'd played it in the soundcheck and it was like, "Well, I'll believe that when I hear it." I think it was about a year later that I tracked down a tape. I think it didn't circulate much since the sound isn't fantastic. More of a curiosity to listen to once or twice. Still glad the taper was able to capture it!

On inside of the 2000-10-05 Toronto official bootleg (AMAZING show btw), 'Black Diamond' is on the setlist as a potential encore song (interestingly the setlist is written by Jeff, not Eddie). Wasn't actually played until the 2007 Vic Theatre show.

I recently found out they had tried Rich in a Ditch by Klark Kent (aka Stewart Copeland) for the soundcheck of Rapid City '98.

Good memories. Met Ed skateboarding in the parking lot before the show.... So much excitement back then...travelling before college seeing a bunch of shows and a bunch of the US I had never been to.
