I think they might have lost a core cable thy wasn't repaired/replace till 8 songs in. If that is the case then the bootleg recording could be affected.
My pals who were there also said the guitars were inaudible. They were right up front so we thought maybe that's why but its been happening a lot over the last few years. Since 07 actually
May have just been an issue with being at/near the front of the stage: (Re: Melbourne BDO)

I was in the D on Stones side but closer to the back. After the main set we moved further back in the crowd and the sound was much better. I couldn't hear Mikes leads in our original position.

If they needed to lay some cable they should have asked Jeff.

He did mess up the guitar intro to Insignificance ("all in all, it's all my fault") but he recovered, turning it into the best rendition I've heard in years.
Better Man was a definite highlight, Mike's solo was incredible and Ed did the full SIFL tag ("Two dozen other dirty lovers" etc) with passion I've not heard before.
The show really started to lift with STBC (especially after everyone around me was let down a few minutes earlier by all Ed's talk of records only to have them play LTRP!). Footsteps was a treat and they absolutely nailed Chloe/COT. The crowd singalong for Small Town was LOUD, with the band visibly impressed. I remember Ed turning to Jeff later during Jeremy and giving him a 'man, what a crowd' look.
Pearl Jam delivered much more than a typical festival set (clocking in at 2hr45), redeeming themselves and then some for the abridged 2009 show. And the crowd did Sydney and our national day proud.
Insignificance was awesome and a highlight. And after the dip of LTRP it was top stuff throught to the end. Adam and Brad are spot on with BetterMan. It was a great version and the band were on and into it.
I will add that after Sirens Ed did the reprise singalong bit which didn't work for me as they ended the song, had a few second pause before picking it up again (edit: maybe it was just Matt who finished the song the joined in again). It felt forced. Also, Sirens was too fast and it didn't translate too well. Plus there were a few lyric changes (It's a tragic thing) and some flubs. Guitars were in tune though
Other moments. During Porch Jeff got clocked by a swinging lamp and Mike smashed one. TYAAM into Betterman was really powerful and moving (unexpectedly), especially after CD/CoT. Ed made a comment about Andy would have loved this at the end of Black (during another outro singalong i think).
And ridleybradout is top guy. I'm glad you got a good spot dude and enjoyed Arcade Fire.

Has the moment passed too long ago to keep making Jeff pooping gags? I hope not.
