The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
Is 2018 the worst the band has ever sounded? Thinking a good thought about them actually practicing for 2020
No, but it's close to the bottom.
Not on the Lowlight79 2018 diver mix: live across two hospital beds. I found 2018 to be a challenge for sure, myself including. Ed blew is voice out during pinkpop and never recovered, but the band itself probably had one of it's best years playing in a while sans Ed. I think I put together something that is the best thing I ever done for my own reasons. It will be ready in the new year. Consider it my attempt at my own live on two legs.

Maybe i'm in the minority here, but I think Ed was great on the whole in 2018. Losing his voice definitely hurt a little, and the first couple of shows after he came back were rough (Milan, Pinkpop), but once they hit Padova he sounded great again.
There are little annoying tics that frustrate me but it probably just means I've listened to way too many bootlegs. The bootlegs spoil us and they're great but they cause us to analyse and dissect every performance.
He can't hit that higher register anymore but he still goes for it which is annoying because it sounds like trash. But there's plenty still to love about his voice. I still get the goosebumps when I'm in the crowd, so he must be doing something right.

I agree with that. He took his job a bit more serious after the scare.

yeah, he sang better and he was conscious about it. He was way better.

Being sober is my #1 key. He was drunken fool in 2013 - you can hear it on those bootlegs. He slowed down a bit after that. He definitely drank way less in 2018 - probably more hot tea instead.

Guys, his voice was completely shredded, just listen to him sing the help! cover intro to help, help in prague. It was bad, really bad, that said this tour had some great shows.

I thought he was much better completely shitfaced in 2013 than he was in 2018

That was one of my favorite moments of the entire tour. Oh well, I guess.

lol, same
I honestly don't see Ed having a little bit of a scratchy throat as a major indicator on if I think a show is great or not.

It was one of mine too, the fact that his voice it totally toast when he does it adds a particular charm to it in my opinion.
