You can do modern pearl jam, you can do when the album came out, you can do over time, you can do average, I dont care what you do just make it clear in your post what youre talking about |

I'm tempted to do this in gif form. But I'm not sure I have the stamina. |

I have listened to far too many Pearl Jam bootlegs, I have some opinions here. Ten Best: Deep - this one is consistently really good, even now. Worst: Oceans - I don't think they've played a great version of this years. One of those songs that I think has never quite hit the mark with Matt, I feel like he always does too much, and it really suffers in the absence Ed's sweeter, younger voice. Vs Best: Go - when the stars align, this one still rips. Worst: Blood - this one's ready for the bin, it's way past its use-by date. Ed can't sing it, Matt gave up playing it with any enthusiasm around a decade ago. Vitalogy Best: Tremor Christ - for the amount they play this one, it sounds disproportionately good when they do. It's rarely bad and usually pretty great. Worst: Satan's Bed - can't think of any respectable versions of this in years. They usually can't get the changes right, but even when they do, Mike and Stone can't figure out a decent guitar arrangement (do they double the riff? do they double it in some bits and not others? Does Mike hang back and only play in the choruses? etc.) - because it's so seldom played, I get the sense it's something they haven't devoted much time to figuring out. Merkinball Best: Long Road - this is never bad and usually (at least) pretty good. Worst: I Got Shit - this is almost always pretty boring these days and usually feels rushed and perfunctory. No Code Best: Present Tense - they play this one consistently well and I think Matt's more muscular approach, for once, actually works well. Worst: Who You Are - until he's willing to come up with something beyond the most generic, placeholder beat imaginable, Matt needs to leave this one to Jack. Yield Best: Faithfull - another one is that almost always pretty good and very often pretty great. Worst: Wishlist - a consistent waste of time since Matt joined. Binaural Best: Rival - like Tremor Christ, they rarely play it, but when they do, it's often fantastic. Worst: I think this is a generally very well-performed bunch of songs but I'll go for Grievance - in recent years it's always suffering for lack of growl from both Ed and the guitars. Riot Act Best: Love Boat Captain - this has made a very welcome return to semi-regular rotation, always solid and sounds great. Worst: You Are - so drab, they just can't make it swing like it ought to. Pearl Jam Best: Inside Job - this is usually pretty good. Worst: There's about half a dozen songs that belong here that would've once battled for the best live song, they just can't nail this material without putting in some serious rehearsal time - out of a crowded field, I'll go for Marker in the Sand, a trainwreck virtually every time they've attemped it post-2006. Backspacer Best: Got Some - this song is not good but I guess the band usually play it pretty competently. I did enjoy Matt's new approach to the song last year, that really livened things up (a bit). Worst: A tough one, since most of these songs sound consistently bad live, but if there's a good version of Supersonic out there, I can't think of it right now. Lightning Bolt Best: Lightning Bolt - see Got Some. I really don't enjoy this song but they play it well enough. Worst: I can't pick between Getaway and Sirens here - they're both awful every time they wheel them out. |

I think I agree with every one of Spenno's choices. Though i would put the blame for Wishlist on Ed here. The 98-2000 versions were pretty great even with Matt's more hard hitting approach due in part with ed keeping a more nuanced approach. Ed now tries to outplay/sing matt camerons drumming approach and has lost all beauty. |
