I'm not familiar enough with Mogwai (I do like them though) but I think all of those are super strong ones. S-K and Pavement especially.

That's a good run too.

We can talk about other very classic runs like Beggar’s Banquet —> Exile on Main St., or Led Zeppelin —> Presence, or Tommy —> Who By Numbers, or Dark Side of the Moon —> The Wall.
Alas, my favorite band is Pearl Jam, so I will actually claim Ten —> Pearl Jam (Avocado).

The Cure in the 80s: Seventeen Seconds > Disintegration. Just an insane amount of incredible material.

pearl jam is a band that has had a lot of drummers
one of them had a serious drug problem and had to leave
one of them simply didn't want to remain with the band and everyone acted like that wasn't a diss
one of them was unceremoniously dismissed because the lead singer was buckling under the pressure of popularity, stalkers, and a failing marriage
one of them was completely insane and often could not keep tempo during live shows
one of them used to be incredibly good in a different seattle band but then when they broke up and he joined pearl ham he decided that he would play drums for them in a way that appeals to 14 year old girls
pearl jam is a band that has had a lot of drummers
how many drummers have you had?

This is another one that doesn't even come close for me. I don't think there's even one great record in that run. Mutations is the closest.

It's stronger than the Beck run mentioned earlier. But still... There's way too much that's disposable for me. I'd entertain an argument that the highs from that run are higher than the highs in the PJ run. But as far as full albums go... ? I just don't see it. Or hear it.

Good call. Not over the PJ run for me, but definitely a great fucking run.

It's my least favorite in that run, yeah. But I don't think it's a bad record, personally. I like it quite a bit.
