well, thats just an opinion. Im on the BS team and i think they took a big risk with that.
Backspacer was 9 years ago
And the risk they took there was to make... poppier, slicker, more radio-friendly songs
Not quite getting your point.
Two points:
1- McP said PJ had become the most musically conservative band he follows, to which you respond that Backspacer was a risk. Backspacer was 9 years ago, and was followed by a much more by-the-numbers album and a throwaway single.
2- Even conceding that Backspacer represented a risk, it was a minor one, consciously designed to increase exposure and commercial accessibility. It did exactly that.
So the last big risk they took was 9 years ago, and even that was just to make poppier songs. I think calling them musically conservative is fair. It'd be great if they showed a bit of ambition again, but it seems unlikely.

a lot of what you said is just your opinion based on what you like. For example the throwaway single part is just because you didnt liked it. I can argue that both BS and LB, safer and they seem to a lot of people there, show a lot of ambition too. And risk. A song like The Fixer or Sirens are not going to appeal a lot of people in their fanbase and they did it anyway.
I do want more music from them of course. More singles maybe, eps you name it.

i'm still trying to really nail down what food Pearl Jam would be
free pizza
options i'm considering:
Chicken soup – Four or five ingredients mixed together to make a specific soup. Each ingredient on its own is different and can be used elsewhere in another recipe. But they all work pretty well together, although kinda bland.
Chewing gum – Tastes awesome for like 15 seconds, then you forget about it and mindlessly chew it, then you spit it out
Fried Chicken – Tastes fucking awesome hot, and even better cold. There's a light version, and a dark version. Different types and parts. Any way you eat it, it's delicious. Until you eat too much and get humongous.
McDonalds McRib Sandwich – People loved the shit out of this. Then it vanished. When it comes back around, people temporarily go nuts until they've had enough. It disappears again. The cycle continues.

Definitely not chewing gum. The others I can get down with.
