It’s no longer a joke that the last Fenway show actually is the last PJ concert

During the bidding period, Leiweke dangled the possibility of an “extended residency” with hometown rock giants Pearl Jam. The band’s longtime manager Kelly Curtis, who quietly retired last year, took part in an advisory board that made recommendations on the arena’s sound and concert experience. No deal is done, though unsurprisingly, Leiweke’s willing to toss ’em the keys anytime the ticket-selling juggernauts would like.

“I’ve always made it very clear to the band, this is their city and this is their building and they can do with it as they see fit,” he says.

everything does sound tinny, and yes Dave A. is an "over-drummer" in style and some people here don't like that, but they were a metal-influenced band in those days, and I really really like that

drummer-kid Me was highly influenced by Dave A; watching this with my dad pretty much made me a lifer

Spotify has this picture for Pearl Jam. Why is Ed the only one smiling? Everybody else is not amused. Did Ed take Stone's guitar?

I'd say Mike is the only one that really looks old in that picture.

Comparatively speaking, yep

Stone is more dork than old

The topic of top 20 lists came up in one or two of the March Madness threads and I'm not sure if I've tried to write down a list before. I'm not gonna go to the trouble of actually figuring out a ranking, but if I did, the top few would basically be right where they are.

Sleight of Hand
Light Years
Insignificance
No Way
Given to Fly
Of the Girl
Cropduster
Not For You
Rearviewmirror
Tremor Christ
Hail Hail
In My Tree
Faithfull
Nothing At It Seems
Do the Evolution
Unemployable
Dance of the Clairvoyants
Jeremy
You Are
Daughter

That idea of a residency (at Key Arena) doesn’t necessarily excite me. I mean it does somewhat but not a lot. The scarcity of PJ concerts is a big part of what makes them special.

Honestly me either. Can you imagine a world where you’re bored on a Thursday night, and think, “eh, maybe I’ll go see Pearl Jam again, I guess.”

In the case of Billy Joel, it keeps selling out. I imagine it will be similar with Pearl Jam. I just think it is a silly idea because it that replaces touring they are basically done. Their draw at this point is their live show and while some crazies might travel to see the show, many will just hang em up and find a new band to see.

Scarcity doesn’t necessarily make me happy. I wish they played more live, mostly because I think they were at their best when they had a few dozen shows under their belt and hit a groove. The 8 show and 12 show tours barely give them a chance to warm up, and I think it contributes to their sloppiness in the later stages of their live careers.
