Thanks Matt - will be making some final decisions over the weekend.

I just listened to the Orpheum version of 'Small Town' - it's a lot better than I remember.

While I think it sounded great in 2006 (Madrid is my pick from this year), I thinking I should probably use the Orpheum one instead. Thoughts?

I haven't heard the Madrid version, but I've never been a big fan of the Orpheum version...just something seems off about it to me, I just can't put my finger on what exactly it is

There's always Atlanta 94 too, which is similar (better?)

Here's Madrid 2006

Madrid 2006 seems a little flat to me for some reason. Try Perth 2006, that's pretty good (bias alert!).

I love 'This song's for Kurt' but the Atlanta version never quite hit the lofty heights. I vote for Las Vegas. On a side note, the versions where Mike's solo kicks in just a tad early always did it for me. there's one from Japan 95 I think that kicks.

Animal
- Las Vegas 1993-11-30
- Atlanta 1994-04-03

Tough call. I actually like Melbourne 98 for the random rhythm chord changes at the end.

Daughter
- Milan 2000-06-22
- Jones Beach 2000-08-24

Never really understood the love for Jones Beach.

Blood
- Las Vegas 1993-11-30
- Orpheum 1994-04-12

This Boston version is unhinged and awesome.

Leash
- Las Vegas 1993-11-30
- Rotterdam 1993-07-16

I like the 92 version from Zurich but understand the quality element.

Indifference
- Indio 1993-11-05
- Atlanta 1994-04-03
- Yokohama 2003-03-01

Hard to beat Atlanta for Indiffrerence.

Cool idea and thanks for the opportunity to input.

Las Vegas 93 Animal is a fucking beast, but I agree on the Melbourne '98 call. The funky guitar break-down front and centre is just the absolute best.

As much as I love the 2000 Jones Beach Daughter, 2000 Milan is the correct answer here.

Is that the one with the call and answer? I hate that one, it's boring.

This I can get behind.

LV 93 Go for sure. Makes my head hurt in the best way.

I love those meandering, jammy runs they sometimes get into at their best. I will say though, Jones Beach is fantastic, and if I had to play just 3 songs to someone to try and get them into PJ, Jones Beach Daughter would be 1 of the 3.

(Self Pollution DtE would take up a spot too. #3 would vary depending on the person I was trying to convince).

Probably the same reason I'm for the Yokohama 03 Indifference. The guests really are refined.

Bias aside, that's pretty damn good. The echoy sound of the Perth boot actually helps this song

Maybe a 2000 Small Town is the right compromise between the 1994 and 2006 versions? Phili 2000-09-01 is a good one.

The Small Town from the Live at the Showbox DVD had something special for me. That's in between 1994 and 2006?

Here is Vs.

I ended up deciding to kick 'Crazy Mary' to the covers disc, and add 'Out Of My Mind'.

I know some will be disappointed that Jones Beach Daughter was not chosen, but remember - it's about the song, not the tag

It has been almost 13 years since the Green Habit Compilation was put together by the
Red Mosquito Forum community. As the band has now been together for double that length
of time, an update or sequel to this collection was well overdue. Hundreds of official
bootlegs later (including numerous 'vault' releases from the pre-bootleg era), every
song has been put up for review.

Red Mosquito forum users were invited to nominate and debate their favourite versions
of each song, for me to then go away and listen to each to make a final decision:
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=8556

There were a number of criteria for picking a definitive live version: sound quality,
correct lyrics, no guitar flubs, full band (if that is how the song was recorded in
the studio), electric rather than acoustic (again, if that is how the song was recorded),
and original era/drummer where possible (unless later versions had something really
special). Basically, if you had to represent the essence and power of each song through
one single live version - which would it be?

After a LOT of deliberation, this is what we came up with. Thank you to everyone for
your suggestions and for the discussion to date. This will be a constantly evolving
collection, so will be reviewed as new shows are played or released from the vault.
The best known source for each track has been used, and remastered by JWB only where
required to provide the smoothest possible listening experience.

Not a criticism at all but I'm wondering how the short-list of:

Yellow Ledbetter
- Mesa 1993-11-06
- Gorge 2006-07-23
- Oslo 2014-06-29

Ended up turning into:

- Hamburg 2000-06-26 :?:

YL must've been a tough one as it varies so much with Ed and Mike both winging it each time, just interested as to why Hamburg got the nod.
