Also, as a general note, I think deference should be given to songs played closest to the year in which they were recorded, so, for example, if there is a 2016 version of a song from Ten (yeah right) that would be tied with a version from '92, the '92 version should be used.
Yup. That is likely to be a major problem, which is why I think the set should be split into 3 eras.

Is the concern that some kind of democratic majority is going to lock us into using a lesser version of a song? I think the solution to this is simple: Brad or someone else who knows what the hell they're talking about gets some kind of final veto power, in case the consensus-forming prowess of the masses lets us down. I got the impression that the spreadsheets were more of an easy way to make suggestions anyway, not necessarily a ballot.
I tend to agree with Brad that three different comps all lumped under the heading of one project seems a bit cumbersome, and I can't help but wonder if we really have enough quality source material to make the early eras (the Jack era especially) worthwhile. For instance -- assuming the drummers dictate the division lines -- the Jack comp would be taken from five shows (if we're sticking with soundboards), and only two of those shows post-date "No Code" while only one post-dates "Yield." It seems like we barely have enough from those years to adequately represent that era on a career-focused collection, let alone a more in-depth, period-focused one.(Note to PJHQ: WE NEED MORE JACK SHOWS).

I am in awe of you guys for your bootleg knowledge. I can speak to the pre-Matt years pretty well. Everything after that is mostly a blur, although I can differentiate elements from one tour to another.

Definitely agree with "Go" and "Animal" from Vegas, "Once" from Hollywood, and "Blood" from Indio. "WMA" from Atlanta is a go by default, but I do wish we had a version without the guest vocalist -- are the versions from this year any good?
Gotta vote against "Wash" from Hollywood -- surely we can find one where the equipment doesn't fail in the third verse (it's a shame Hamburg and Barcelona '96 don't exist in soundboard form). Same with "Black" from Unplugged -- there are a zillion versions of this, surely we can find a good version without a lyric flub. (I think the Unplugged version is a little hurr-durr-y for my tastes anyway, but I realize a lot of people really revere this performance.)
It looks like people aren't really vibing with the 'fill in the spreadsheet' idea
Don't let that discourage anyone who is completing one bit by bit, it will speed up the whole process and get your picks closer to the front of the nomination list
I think after a good chunk of suggestions come in I prepare a shortlist and we do it album by album to come up with some kind of consensus.

Do the Evolution from LO2L always felt like the definitive version to me. You can't beat that scream at the end. Footsteps - Memphis 2000 Daughter - tough to argue with Jones Beach, but I'd like to put Milan 2000 and West Palm 2003 up for consideration
Agree with all of these - LO2L DTE is as good as it gets. For some reason GH excluded any LO2L tracks (and any other officially released tracks by the looks of it, apart from official boots) but we won't be doing that this time as we simply want the best version out there.
I've gone with Given to Fly and Hail Hail from LO2L too
I really like Milan 2000 Daughter - they played it exceptionally well that tour, and this version has a great crowd vibe, is tagless, but has an awesome call and response (before it became tired).
I might be wrong, but I think this is the first time Ed did the "oh-o-oh, oh-o-oh, oh-o-oh-OH-oh-o-oh' chant (the one nearly every audience has intitiated itself since around 2006) - can anyone confirm?

I thought Greenville was pretty good, but they just aren't the same as the early versions.

I think I was thinking of the 2/12/1992 version of "Wash" instead. And yes, you are right.
Yeah black from unplugged isn't that good. And I'm pushing hard for the YL from Tibetan Freedom concert
I totally back a 2006 Black. Marseille is another good one, will have to compare with Pistoia which I also remember being top-shelf.
I love the TFC YL as well, but I think we should be sticking to full-band versions performed at PJ shows. Mesa 93 suggested by Matt (from the Daughter single) is a fantastic Dave A era choice. There are also some great 2003 and 2006 versions.
