The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.

Can somebody post a video of what they believe to be the most powerful Release ever? I've heard an absolutely incredible one on the radio from like 1995 and I dunno Im just in the mood for some amazing Release videos.
Not a video of the actual performance (just audio), but this is the definitive version in my opinion.
great performance. every time he holds those extended notes i am reminded how all of us take this man for granted
That's a good performance, but it didn't strike me as a standout. I think this speaks to what someone said a few posts up about this being a song that is essentially always great. I don't think I've ever heard a bad, or even mediocre, version.

I'm not convinced he isn't blanking on the lyrics in the studio cut
I have a memory of someone in the band saying that the lyrics have never been written down and the song came together almost immediately in studio while Stone was tuning his guitar and improvising that beautiful pattern.
I think Ed mostly improvised the lyrics on the spot. That would likely affect him on later takes if he was going by memory.

I was at that show. Torrential rain. Lightning flashes across the sky just as he sings oh dear dad. Crowd goes wild
Hi dad
It was easily the most magical pj moment I’ve experienced live

Took me 40 to get Oceans. A sibling to Release in most senses. But a better song let’s be honest.
i've been lucky to have oceans a few times
it's a wonderful song
in my head, the Unplugged version is the ideal
just pristine
