RIP MP3. I knew about Tom's Diner being used as a primary reference during the development of the mp3, but the embedded video of all the information that was lost in the encoding is new (and fascinating) to me:

Developers of the MP3 Have Officially Killed It

Unless I'm missing something, this headline is misleading. All that happened is that the patents on the codec expired, so the mp3 format can no longer be licensed. I don't understand how this is supposed to be tantamount to "killing" the format.

This jumped out at me from the Rolling Stone TOTD oral history:
Quote:
Brendan's just so great. When he remixed Ten, he didn't really mess with the levels. He just pulled back maybe a little on the effects and the reverb. The new mix is just a little bit crisper. In the last 25 years, the way we listen to music is so different. People have gotten used to a lot of clarity at the top end. I think he really brought a lot of that out.

"People have gotten used to..."

FUCK PEOPLE!!! I'm guessing BOB has convinced them of this theory. :shake:
