My old boss had a 6 second sting used twice in Friends and the syndication meant he got a 10-15k (aust dollars) cheque twice a year for that sting alone.

I believe it. Gary Portney has said he could have lived comfortably his whole life off of Cheers royalties alone. The band that did the Friends theme signed their publishing away (huge whoops!), and only get performance pay (did I say huge whoops), but the singer still described his syndication pay as being "five very healthy figures annually" as late as 2008. Publishing would have more than doubled that.

Pop bands usually get a fat flat fee up front, plus the standard publishing deal, though, which makes this an easy win for them.

Also, Keith Hernandez earns $3,000+ annually just from his brief role on Seinfeld. TV used to be where it was at.

Trag, great thread - thank you.

I've read it cover to cover this far and it's fascinating stuff. I also now have a much clearer understanding of everything. From royalties, to income splits, slave contracts, TV song placement, bald Norwegians writing all of today's 'Murican pop hits (no surprise there), David Schwimmer's milkshake preferences...all of it.

But here's the one thing that any of us really care to know in the end: What was Katy Perry wearing?

Did a search of Universal Music's publishing list to see if there were any new song titles. Doesn't look like anything from the new album, but there are a bunch of songs listed that I've never heard of before. Based on "Tenori," which is a cool electronic Japanese instrument, I'm wondering if these are from his abandoned electronic record?

Black Box
DJ Organ
I Wanna Go
Reel Bow part 1
Reel Bow part 2
Rubbertramp
Space Bunk part 1
Space Bunk part 2
Tenori
Transit

Then search for Eddie Vedder

Will any of us live long enough to hear those songs?

No, but we'll still get to hear them once Facebook uploads our consciousness into the cloud.

Come on, you may even get to have a Lawnmower Man-style dalliance with the uploaded consciousness of Annie Clarke.

I'd rather be dead than spend any more time in Zuckerberg's cloud. Also, I don't want to have a dalliance with Annie Clark. I'd love to buy her a drink and have a good long chat, though.

Sounds like a Belle & Sebastian record.

I love looking at that stuff. Two things stand out.

1) I know "Untitled" is listed separately, but I wonder if "I Wanna Go" is an alternate title, since there are a couple of alternate titles listed, like "Oceans Away." Maybe not, just a thought.

2) Eddie's listed as the sole songwriter on "Of the Earth?" I'm sure it's a "Porch" situation where he wrote the chords and structure and the jam doesn't matter. But still, given that all we know is the live version it feels weird that it's not considered a band composition.

Jeff, Stone, and Cready also have Black Box under their entries.
