Right Song/Wrong Album: Binaural

What songs on Binaural would you like to have heard recorded for other albums? What should have been on Binaural?

Ten
Vs
Vitalogy

Yield

I would have definitely preferred to hear breakerfall on some other album. The production sucks the life out of that song. I'm not sure where though. I'd say Backspacer but GSMF is a similar song so we already have that.

Grievance on Vs. I think.

Blah. I really couldnt picture any of these songs on any other record and i really wouldnt want them to be produced the way some of the other records sound.

Ive said it before but I think the way the guitars sound are perfect. Its the only record in their career that production of the songs truly let the songs speak for themselves. The guitars aren't aggressively distorted or thrown up int he front of the mix, They are subtle. A song like grievance doesnt need to be over blown because the song is aggressive in itself. Same with breakerfall. The guitars create such space and the songs breathe so wonderfully. I think breakerfall would be a weaker track if done in the vein of GSMF. The live versions from 2000 also reflected all of this with the tones they were using. So beautiful.

I would like to hear Breakerfall with Yield's production. I can't really pick out any other song that I'd want to change the production.

Of The Girl on No Code :naughty:

I think some of the later stuff would benefit from Binaural's production values. Got Some, Force of Nature, and My Father's Son all jump out at me as being great songs somewhat neutered by production that is too crisp and features Ed's vox too prominently. The darker tones, more claustrophobic atmosphere, and lower mix of Ed's vox on Binaural could really help these puppies shine.

Yes Trag. And Parachutes and Come Back. Maybe MITS too. Pendulum if it was more organic and less uptight.

Pendulum on Binaural, oh my!

Ooh! Those would all be great (though I don't think Sir George Martin himself could sell me on the MITS chorus).

Slight diversion but I met George Martin and he's an absolute gentleman.

I love me MITS.

I wish all the songs were on Binaural and none of the other albums existed.

Cool, how'd you pull that off? I've got a few studio friends who say the same (ditto Rupert Neve).

I think MITS is one of the more overrated tracks in the catalog. It's conceptually great, but I think it's too clean and tight. I'd prefer to hear a raggedy Irons version to take the edge off the saccharine chorus.

My Father's Son is a great choice. Got Some would be interesting as well. I think FoN needs a larger than life sound, which is not among the many virtues of Binaural

MITS, on the other hand, would just got flattened by Binaural. that's a u2 arena rock as religious revival track, and I think Binaural would suck the life and energy from that one.

I do like Pendulum. I bet I'd like Unemployable a lot more if Binaural sanded down some of its shine.

I bet Insignificance and Rival would have been interesting on Vitalogy

"Insignificance" needs a lot more punch. I'd like to hear it on Vs.

This is the most perfect desription of that song that I've ever heard, and sums up everything that's wrong with it.

See I think the guitar tones of Grievance would work well there plus a more interesting snare. Matt owns that song but it's way too sharp and angular at the moment.

When I worked in audio post a good client was filming a documentary on George Martin and his pre and post Beatles work. In 1998 George did a show at the Sydney Opera House - All You Need Is Beatles. I met him and his wife after the show with that client. That was quite a moment.

I agree about the guitar. I think the studio mits is an okay capture of a potentially awesome song
