I love Alice Coltrane and definitely hear the influence now that you point it out, but I wouldn't say he's "just doing an impression," especially in the very dramatic, Baroque sound of Spencer or the aforementioned Phantom Thread which is very lavish and Romantic. Don't know anything about Can or Oliver Messiaen though

And no, “doing an impression” is unfair. He’s obviously extremely talented and Radiohead is one of my all time favorite bands. Just I’m not as enamored with his score work since I became more familiar with his influences.
