In My Tree is really really great, and interesting, and all sorts of positive things.
But I vote for Corduroy.
I dropped my daughter off at Gym at 8 this morning and then took a long drive, windows down, blaring Lo2L. That Corduroy opener just slays. I had a really lovely Saturday morning.

i like that they redefined what a grunge song could be on in my tree by adding some vaguely tribal drumming to the soft verse loud chorus template. I wish they went for broke and added a sitar to really push some boundaries.
But I think my favorite part is the way they make the bridge all mysterious by slurring the vocals. I don't know what he's saying, but it must be pretty deep. Ethereal and primal.
it doesnt matter what he's saying, its the way it sounds and how it makes you feel that makes it great. sounds dont have to be words in music to be powerful. ive been in love with this song since it came out and i think it had an influence on my enjoyment of music ever since.
but corduroy is probably just as good. maybe vedder's best studio vocals and everything about it grabs you, the opening riff, the chord progression in the verses, the hugeness of the bridge and how it falls perfect back into the chorus. i also kinda like that the opening riff and the ending are the same thing, just played differently.
tough choice, these might be my 2 favorite pearl jam songs.

I love this version of IMT from MSG. It may be on the same level as Corduroy, but the studio version has always come up just short of perfection for me. I'm not sure why, but it does. Corduroy on the other hand is the perfect PJ song.
IMT is highly overrated. Corduroy, however, is not. Corduroy.
I listened to the alternate take of Corduroy and damn it's a fine old song. And I wonder if we would have had Chus without the lyric change.
I'd like to think it would be Cuhs.
God I love the scream Ed does on this take right before the bridge - wish they would have left that in. Maybe someone should matrix it into the album version for us.... Cuhs?
