Two songs that I wish were produced in an earlier era. The jagged sound of S/T doesn't do Marker any favors (Yield would have been great here), and Severed Hand needs to be more explosive then it is (Vs. era, maybe). But marker is the better song.
A couple years ago I would have voted for Severed Hand without hesitation. It used to be my undisputed favorite on the album. But Marker has made a case for itself, improving year after year. It's just too good of a song to ignore. It's become my favorite on the record with Parachutes a close #2. SH has dropped to the third spot.

I really like both of these, tough to separate.
MitS.
Avocado isn't a bad album really.
It really isn't. There are indeed a few clunkers, Gone, WWS, and Inside Job particularly, but overall, there are some solid songs. It's probably the best of the last three.

WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE GONE
I enjoy the music, the drums in particular, but the lyrics are pretty trite.
Okay, but aren't most of the lyrics on S/T trite?
Sure. That doesn't pardon Gone's though.
But if the most of the lyrics on S/T are trite, and you are criticizing it for the same thing most of the other songs on S/T have, then why does everyone rank it so low on that album?
Personally, I'd say it's my favorite Avocado song. And I actually think there are some decent lyrics in there. I particularly like "when the gas in my tank feels like money in the bank."

Perhaps it's Ed participation all around (Lyrics, delivery, melody). I don't know man. Something has to be next to Inside Job at the bottom.
