I'm listening to Backspacer right now. And I hate to admit this, but Gonna See My Friend really doesn't do much for me, either. I mean, guys, The Fixer is better. Sorry.

GSMF is one that i loved at first but it has definitely lost a bit for me, i think its mainly Ed's voice, i don't really love how it sounds on that one
I goddamn love the BS version of Speed of Sound. I LOVE it.
Its growing on me, ever since i heard the demo and realized how good of a song it is, I've kinda been able to look past the extra stuff i don't love.
See, I like the album version a lot more.
I concur.
But if there was an Ed album with SoS, JB and The End on it that would be fine.
Sure. And that's one of the things Backspacer has going against it. It's the first time I've ever really felt that "Eddie Vedder and the Pearl Jams" criticism.

That and the way he tries to shove words into the song. Especially "Buona sera!" I really dislike the way that sounds.

SoS less so. That feels like a PJ song. The others not at all.

Yes, but I thought you were talking about the demo of SoS.
The album version is a fine PJ tune. The demo version along with JB & The End would work well on an Ed solo piece.

Definitely. BiH and I have said awhile back that those 3 plus Gone are the basis of a good Ed record. But I do like the SoS band version.

You like it more then the demo? I just like the straight forward song better then the one with all the carnival sounds. Though like was mentioned earlier, the unique stuff is nice, but i think they tried a bit too hard to make this one a unique song and hurt a very good song

SoS also suffers from it's placement. It can't scrape the dog shit off your shoes of Supersonic.
As I've just listened to this thing again, I feel compelled to rank the tracks:
1. Amongst the Waves 2. Just Breathe 3. Speed of Sound 4. Johnny Guitar 5. The End 6. Got Some 7. The Fixer 8. Unthought Known 9. Gonna See My Fried 10. Force of Nature 11. Supersonic
This is how I ranked them back in January of 2013: 1. Just Breathe 2. Amongst the Waves 3. Got Some 4. The End 5. Speed of Sound 6. Johnny Guitar 7. The Fixer 8. Unthought Known 9. Gonna See My Friend 10. Supersonic 11. Force of Nature

Yeah, the demo is kind of stiff, to me. I like, not only the layering, but the focus and deliver on the studio version better.

Yes. I dont quite cared about the demo because of that..it was just another Ed solo with an acoustic type of song. And Durden you have a point about the feeling of this album being more Ed and The PJ´s...the inclusion of The end for example is an example. That`s why i dont care about that song i think...i want a PJ album not an eddie solo acoustic one.

I don't know exactly how i would rank then right now, but my top 3 would be force of nature, the end and johnny guitar, the rest would probably be a toss up, but i haven't been straight through the album in a while

I'm gonna need to go back and change my Rank The Catalog thread... damn....

Its definitely growing on me, and watching the web cam for the wrigley soundcheck and hearing it live made a big difference also
