i don't wanna step on PHATJ's toes in the Avocado 2 thread while he's live posting. but how much blow back (if any) would the band receive around here** if they revisited some of those unused Avocado demos that we've heard through the leak, and used them for the new album? i'm assuming there would be a fair amount of "these guys couldn't write anything new in 5 years!" comments. but, who cares if the songs turned out decent-to-good?
** i say "around here," bc the average PJ fan would have no idea these demos ever leaked, and we'd be the most critical crowd of the people who were in the know

If they went back and reworked and recorded that stuff, I’d love to hear it. I’m sure they’d figure out a way to fuck it all up, but at least I’d know they were working with some great ideas. I can’t believe how promising some of the songs are that seemingly have gone to waste.

as long as the music that is released is interesting i would be happy
it pains me that they may have swapped SBM in place of Of the Earth at the last second

Of The Earth is fantastic. My concern is that once BoB got his mitts on it, it would be sanitised beyond all recognition. Sounds like they've had at least two runs at recording it so far. Let's hope third time's a charm.

I agree with this.
If we only had live recordings of "Lightning Bolt" it would be a lot more popular song imho

With Sleeping By Myself being one of the worst ever Pearl Jam album songs, that can't be very good for Of The Earth.
They are very different pieces. SBM is a fine second half of the album song for r modern PJ after the success of Just Breathe. OTE is a grunge jam that is great live but wouldn’t work in the studio
