I don’t understand the point of this exercise. Pearl Jam’s failure hasn’t been the inability to maintain consistently great output for >=20 years. Everyone has that inability.
Pearl Jam set the bar extremely high for a lot of us. They set the bar so goddamn high that we for some reason thought they would never turn into every single other fucking band that were lucky enough to be around for 25+ years.
Its just disappointing im not as excited about them as I once was and its disappointing they have just reached that level i for someone reason convinced myself they wouldnt.
Alas....
Doesn't change the incredible 8 album run and countless live shows ive seen.
And, there are countless other amazing bands out there now.

Bizarro theories of where the band could be era wise with Backspacer/LB:
1) Kenney Jones Who Era: the gig is up, the song is over, and it’s only a matter of time (worst case scenario);
2) Bruce Springsteen Tunnel of Love/post E Street Era: a temporary period of complacency where we’ll soon see a creative resurrection (best case scenario);
3) Neil Young/Bob Dylan Awkward 80’s Era: a little dip, never a true return to form, but different and interesting things to come after fully adapting (hopeful scenario); or
4) Rolling Stones Post Some Girls Long Descent: we’re gonna be in for a long ride of pretty decent but not great (possibly likely scenario).
