That's because LB was atrocious rather than Gigaton being outrageously good though, IMO.
For me, Yield was the biggest uptick in quality over a previous album. But then at the time No Code left me cold and Yield was a revelation as PJ had been usurped by Radiohead as my favourite band. I didn't think they still had it in them!

relistened to this a few times recently on a few long road trips and it holds up. really glad they made it, 1000% times better than the previous two records and probably their best since riot act.

VS suffers from an unbalanced exposure:quality ratio like no other PJ album and is the worst of the classic area, but no way gigaton is better

and i put it on after listening to vs and preferred gigaton, gang. come at me.
Vs. is pretty inconsistent once you get passed all of the loud angst.
MD gets it

For sure. But we went what, about 10 years where new Pearl Jam consisted of LB, Ole and Can't Deny Me. Nobody could be blamed for at least contemplating giving up on new material from this band. But then they come out with Gigaton which is arguably their best release in 20 years.

Oh, I don't mean invite him to play with the band necessarily.
Just extend the occasional olive branch to the guy, like they do everyone else who played drums in Pearl Jam for five minutes.
The thought came from trag's observation about the band's barn-storming performances on Vs elevating the record - Dave's drums are a huge part of that.
Ok I've been very critical of Gigaton. So I've spent some time listening to it again. 1-3 is flippen fantastic top shelf. 4 incredible music Ed is his absolute worst 5. Get out of here with that. 6.musicaly really enjoyable. Ed has great moments and some bad. 7never again 8. I like it for some reason 9. Buckle Up. Do I have to? Torture 10. A classic 11. Bad song but I love it 12. Complete trash maybe the worst song they ever unleashed. I am not sure it is better than LB.

i think i'd go back as far as yield for 'their best since...', but would probably not offer hard disagreements for binaural/riot act. to say it's better than vs, though, is a bit much.
