Ok but the lyrics to Sirens are terrible tho?
I love the lyrics to Sirens, but I feel that song is put together incredibly strangely. Feel the same about LBC. There's a naked earnestness to the lyrics of both that may come across as inartful, I could see that. Sweet spot for me, personally.

how come? is not that different then lets say, black.
lets not. just in terms of career, black is arguably the best song on their best/most important album. sirens is one of their most forgettable singles. i have no idea if they are similar musically b/c ive never tired to learn sirens, but i know stone wrote black and sirens is credited to eddie vedder and mike mccready. i also dont hear the floyd thing.
gigaton is still kicking my ass. i hear more pink floyd on this record than any other record other than maybe binaural.
Im not talking in terms of this one is great, this one sucks. Im saying that Sirens goes for the same place Black went, the big power ballad. Hell, the drums of that song belong in Ten! They both have singing outros, solo guitars....

The intent is one thing, the product is another; I have no idea if you are being earnest here, especially with the latter but no.

If Black came out today on a new Pearl Jam record, I would definitely think it was terrible.
If it were performed by the Pearl Jam of today and produced by BoB I'm sure it would be terrible, but the original recording of Black is brilliant and absolutely would hold up if released today.

Sirens is embarrassing, like the majority of Lightning Bolt. It’s embarrassing today. It was embarrassing in 2013. And it would’ve been embarrassing in 1991.
I don’t even like Black anymore. But it’s leaps and bounds ahead of Sirens.

So maybe Black is awesome (at least in part) and Sirens isn’t because... 1991 is the right context for this music? I agree with oasisfan & warehouse, I hate Sirens. Black isn’t my favorite song on Ten but it’s a damn classic song for this band.
No. Black is a ballad, but has some bluesy vibe underpinning it. Mike’s solo bares it out a bit more.
Sirens is a ballad, but in the context of its performance with Eddie’s vocals sounds more like it’s trying to sound like Pink Floyd’s Learning to Fly. It does not fit.
I wanna read a good compare/contrast of Black and Sirens now. Somebody please write something wordy.
there's absolutely no reason for it. for some reason people think since they are both "ballads" they are similar songs. sirens is just incredibly uninspiring. the guitar solo tries to soar and falls complete flat. if EV is trying to sound like Learning to Fly he's doing a terrible job. Black has the emotional weight that holds up to any rock n roll song about heart break. the "do do do do do do do" part alone is better than anything in Sirens.
