I was just in a pizza joint, and The Who's "The Real Me" comes on, and I gotta say... the bar was kinda loud so I could only hear the bass / drums at first but knew it was the Real Me, and for a second I thought it was PJ as it really sounded like Matts drumming... So yeah, Matt and Jeff rocked that song. What does this have to do with the drummer debate? While if Matts nailing Keith Moon parts, he must be pretty damn good
He IS amazing. He just needs some good songs to play on.

Listening to old boots Im stunned.
I always thought Pearl Jam was a great band, because of Eddie and their awesome songs and concerts. But their actual musicians are just average/ok. They don't have a Slash, or a Neil Peart or anything like that...some real standout performer. McCready is ok, good now, I think he's gotten better, he's worse in older live boots I've heard, Stone is ok.....they're alright guitar players. Jeff is good. Nothing special.
It's just a group of decent musicians who write good songs and an amazing singer.
And then I saw the boots with Dave A.
HE WAS ASTOUNDING! A truly PHENOMENAL drummer.
I feel like Pearl Jam, as big as they are obviously now, would be twice as good if they had kept him because they actually DID have an amazing musician in their group and they let him go. And he elevated the entire band.
Its funny watching live clips from that era every single comment on youtube is all about Dave A, he stole the show. But not in a bad way. Was it Eddie's ego that made him leave? It's sad because they were SO GOOD TOGETHER.

Why was Matt cameron so much better in 1998?
I still think the Dave A one is better by a bit though, he has a special touch. I don't know what it is but I have to bob my head along as he plays, he has a groove. But its a close call
I do like the slightly faster tempo Matt takes it at in that clip, and the cleaner sound of the guitars. That's a good clip too. Maybe it IS even a little better but Id love to hear Dave A if he took it at that tempo
