"Evacuation" is one of my favorite Pearl Jam songs.
i dont know if that is true ( based off most of the opinions of RM i would assume it is not) and it is in no way my favorite, but i think its a pretty good song

as far as songwriting goes, he's basically too technical for this band, especially for Mike. you can tell when one member of the band has a hard time following the odd time signatures and the whole song suffers from this.
It's not Matt's problem that Mike would rather be playing a Kiss or Van Halen cover than something with some merit. Perhaps it's time for a new lead guitarist.

Agreed. Mike probably has the worst taste in music in the band, which he shoves into every solo, which he shoves into every song.

I dunno Ed's is pretty awful. Seems like his taste is responsible for alot of the shitty openers and the faux punk bullshit that they keep pushing and doesn't really fit the style of anyone else in the band.
I don't think Mike has a huge impact on the overall sound of the band when they're at their best, but he's done some really great classic rock guitar. I don't think it's close who the most interesting or better songwriting guitar in PJ is, but I also don't believe Mike's influences have been hugely detrimental to PJ's output.
When it comes to PJ and their overall sound Kiss and Van Halen have more merit than anything remotely resembling prog.

most of mike's solos suck ape shit & balls.
they're fast, but whoopty-doo-dong-day if they don't fit the songs they're played in. It's as if his ears don't work, why the fuck he's still in the band is beyond me.
He must be one hell of a guy is all that I can guess is his saving grace.

I'm trying, but I can't really think of a song where the solo he plays just seems really out of place. Could he try to be more original or build upon certain aspects that he's tinkered with? No doubt, but I don't think his playing has every really been detrimental to the whole, especially when compared to the influences Ed generally brings to the game.
Mike's playing certainly fits better than Cameron's drumming style for the most part.

I can't think of a bad mike solo. In fact the only one that ever really seemed out of place to me was Amongst the Waves

Now that Soundgarden is back together, Pearl Jam needs a new drummer. I think Dave Grohl would be a perfect. His style of drumming fits this band a lot more than Matt's does.
