I wouldn't replace any of the songs on Binaural. I just would have added more, and Education wouldn't be one of them. Easily the weakest song from the sessions.

I love Education. But it's there hardest one to fit on the record. I just don't think it belongs. It's just a standalone.

It's okay, but it screams "Ed" b-side.
I would have included most of the songs on the final album plus Sad, In The Moonlight & Fatal - and made Education, Soon Forget and Hitchhiker the related b-sides.

I love Education. Binaural is great as it is.
But, I also think it would've fit fine on Binaural i.e. right in Soon Forget's spot on the track list.

I think the only b-sides that would be able to fit on Binaural would be Sad and Fatal, and possibly only the latter. That being said, it really doesn't matter to me that they were left off; it wasn't like they were sitting in a vault for decades (I think it was three years between Binaural and Lost Dogs?) And Binaural didn't need the help; it's why leaving tracks like Cold Confession and Let it Ride off S/T is a bigger deal; I've grown to like that album, but it could still use some help that those songs could have provided.

Has anyone ever made a listenable re-tracking of S/T with those two on it? Seems the 06 spotify could serve as a starting place, but I imagine some kind of re-master would be required on whatever the best versions of Cold Confession and Let It Ride are. I wouldn't want to lose any songs from the album, even though I'm not a fan of Comatose and I really only like the last third of Big Wave. Hmmm... I could probably be convinced on Comatose.

Maybe this?
1. Life Wasted 2. WWS 3. Comatose 4. Severed Hand 5. Marker 6. Parachutes 7. Unemployable 8. Big Wave 9. Cold Confession 10. Let it Ride 11. Army Reserve 12. Come Back 13. Inside Job 14. Wasted Reprise

Where would you slot Gone into there if you had to?
That’s a tough question. I like Gone well enough, it’s an ok song, but Cold Confession eliminates the need for a slower paced song, and Let it Ride soars well beyond what Gone can accomplish. They basically eliminate the need for Gone to exist on the album. That was the reasoning in pulling it. I’m not sure if it makes sense anywhere now.

Including Gone. I don’t like this as much. It’s tricky.
1. Life Wasted 2. WWS 3. Comatose 4. Severed Hand 5. Marker 6. Parachutes 7. Unemployable 8. Big Wave 9. Army Reserve 10. Cold Confession 11. Let it Ride 12. Gone 13. Come Back 14. Inside Job 15. Wasted Reprise

B-side: Gone
Take Comatose out and I dig every moment!

I usually run cool on Comatose too, but every now and then I find myself enjoying it a bit. But it has zero replay ability for me. Once I hear it, I don’t want to again for a long time. But I do think it earns its spot on the album. And even though I like Gone better than Comatose, with the addition of Cold Confession and Let It Ride, Gone becomes more redundant than it already was, and is replaced with two far superior songs.
That being said, I’d probably personally enjoy listening through without having to be bothered with Comatose or Gone in the mix.
Actually, I’d be happy starting this thing on track 4 and listening to this sequencing:
1. Severed Hand 2. Marker 3. Parachutes 4. Unemployable 5. Big Wave 6. Cold Confession 7. Let it Ride 8. Army Reserve 9. Come Back 10. Gone 11. Inside Job
I could add Life Wated to the beginning, but it isn’t something I particularly enjoy listening to. I’ve never been a fan of WWS, and I already discussed Comatose. Severed Hand could be a cool opener to this alternate and abridged version of Avocado. Wasted Reprise is disposable. I added in Gone because, as I mentioned before, I like it well enough. I wonder how Life Wasted would work in that spot though... hmm.
