Doesn't seem like too many stores are carrying each variant.

Not at all. Like 2-3 max per variant. Sometimes just 1. They’re all available online though, I haven’t seen any (yet) where a shop is holding them specifically for in person.

all utterly inessential to general fandom and designed to appeal to a niche market that enjoys them. I mean I think one variant is too many, but I'm not a collector, and happily, like t-shirts and basketballs, all of this can be easily ignored by me IF THE BOARD WOULD STOP FUCKING BITCHING ABOUT THEM CONSTANTLY

(which is not just Anders. He's just the unfortunate soul who took it upon himself to respond to me)

why now dont u bitching?

This is all a big setup to play STBC at every show this year, changing the lyrics to "Spin the XXX XXXX Circle" to whatever variant was available in that market. Then the bootlegs will be collectibles too.

omg great idea

and add the local market hockey/basketball jersey with PJ/Vedder sewn onto the back for low low price of $395.95

Email from record label to pre-ordered customers: “Due to unforeseen circumstances with production, the new Waxahatchee album has been pushed back from April to June 1. We will email you when your order ships.”

and now we understand why so many fan club singles got delayed in years past

I think it’s more about them earning from the attention, not extra money from the sales themself.

Yeah, I think it's easy to default to "more money for indie stores is good..."

BUT they could get the same money if PJ adhered to their given place in the production line. And the fans can still stream the album/buy CDs on release day, and just get the vinyl later.

Unnecessarily abusive. PJ sucks!

The most notable case of this was the Adele 30 pressing just absolutely fucking up production schedules by jumping ahead of schedule, and sending a pretty long-lasting ripple effect across the industry. And 6 months later, stores and sites couldn’t get rid of their stock and that thing could readily be found for like $10.

Update: Jeff just posted something that indicates they were still recording the thing a year ago today, so I'm gonna say yes, they definitely paid to cut the line at the pressing plants.

Remember during Backspacer, they'd post a picture of the limited edition 7", and you had to run to the store immediately to get it?
