Drummers come and go in this band so losing Matt wouldn't change a thing (might even make them better).

But of Eddie, Stone, Mike, and Jeff which guy if they left would matter least?

Gotta go with Mike. Lead player? I can't stand lead guitar. Leave that stuff to hair metal bands. Sure Mike has written a few top songs for the band, but bottom line if he weren't on the left side of the stage, the band would still be Pearl Jam.

I agree with you but they'd call it a day without any of those 4 I think. At least until they needed some more money and did a reunion tour.

I agree. Eddie would do his solo stuff. Band would definitely cease to exist if one of the four left.

PJ would be best if Ed left at this point (although I agree that if anyone leaves they won't bother anymore).

It depends how it happens, but they could replace anyone. Even if Ed was the last one to join, he is probably the worst to replace. If he died, I could see them do a tribute concert with Neil Young, and maybe several singers, but no new album or permanent vocalist. They would probably make music apart from each other.. If one of the other three said they wanted a break to take care of their family, but wanted the band to continue, it could work. Wouldn't be Pearl Jam without Stone though.

Ed is the only person who is indispensable. It's hard to say if they'd quit without knowing the dynamics. REM survived Bill Berry leaving

I do think that they'd be a better live band if Ed didn't play guitar. Maybe a slight wrist injury? One that meant he couldn't hold a wine bottle too.

I love Ed, but he is the most annoying thing about PJ at this point.

Yeah, bands go one without certain members, but are they really that band anymore in the eyes of the solid fans? Springsteen is touring without The Big Man nowadays (and without Danny), but is that really the E Street Band in any fan's eyes?

Survive is the right word. They ain't that band anymore, they are just surviving.

I think they call it quits if anyone leaves, but hypothetically, Jeff is the guy they can most easily replace IMO.

Bassists area dime a dozen. If John Entwhistle can be replaced, any bassist can.

If Ed quits/dies, they could just get Scott Stapp. He could probably do old Ed better than Ed can.

Who will write all of the good songs then?

I think Jeff's a good songwriter, but how often do you listen to a PJ show and say "wow Jeff's really killing it" or something to that effect? Mike is essential to their live act, to me it comes down to Jeff and stone, I pick Jeff.

I rarely listen to PJ shows at all, it's always been about the albums for me.

I don't think there's even a slight chance the band would carry on without any of the core four guys. I think they'd probably even pack it in without Matt at this point.

Without the live shows, all the band has left is a mediocre album(if we're lucky) every four years or so. I was just looking at it from an all encompassing angle.
