I'd always assumed the opposite, actually. I've never thought there was any reason to suspect they weren't 1996 vocals.
As far as I recall, the only songs that received new vocals on Lost Dogs were those from the early 90s (because of all the heart-felt bellowing, I guess.)
yeah I assumed the same. The thought just occurred to me, though.
I think drifting is a different vocal take, but I assume it is from the same period
"Drifting" was almost assuredly a re-record. No way Eddie sounded that horrible in 1999.

I like that they made them different. It makes those original versions on the singles etc. still special for people who already had them for that reason.

So you're Stip's second account, huh?
Definitely not.

One morning you eat your eggs scrambled with hot sauce, the next sunnyside up over toast. I'm okay with the variation, it gives us something different to listen to. .
The variations of the known tracks are fine. I tend to listen to the originals more often, though. But knowing that they messed with (most, if not all) of the stuff I hadn't already heard, kills me.
It feels self-conscious, disingenuous and spiteful. They're so vain, they probably want to change the lyrics, vocals and outro riffs to that song, too.

Most of the time the 2003 vocals set against the 1991 music just doesn't work (and in the case of "Drifting," it's just a terrible performance). They're just not facets of the band's sound that go together. "Lost Dogs" is a wonderful collection of songs but almost all the original takes are superior.
The acoustic version of Hold On from the VS/Vitalogy reissue is my favorite version of that. And as far as I can tell, it's unfucked with. And if I'm wrong, don't dare tell me. It'll ruin everything.

Guys, the Lost Dogs Hold On is better than a cement hard poop that makes your anus bleed and leads to a day of irregular and super embarrassing farting.
In all seriousness, I do to. I think it's underrated and gets treated unfairly. But that acoustic version knocked me out. And I was already a big fan of the LD version.
