There's some live full band version of Drifting that I have. It's my favorite. But still not as good as Strangest Tribe.

7/11/03 acoustic set. I was there, man.

Oh yeah, I have that one too. The one I'm talking about is different. It's plugged-in, yo.

Oh.

That Boston one is sweet too. I wish I'd been there. I'll always be jealous of you for that.

It might not be a top tier PJ tune, but I'd still like to hear it live, in person.

Listening to Strangest Tribe brought back memories and a few thoughts.

The collection of songs on Lost Dogs is one of the coolest things about Pearl Jam. When I was in my early teens I'd pop in a cassette or CD and sit down next to the stereo with the liner notes to whatever album I had in, grab the liner notes and really study the music. Pearl Jam for me was ideal for this, the emotion, the slight mystery to the band and most of all the wealth of unreleased songs. That was an aspect of a band I hadn't experienced before. It was amazing to discover Footsteps or Yellow Ledbetter at 14, these songs were heavy and they weren't even on an album. It made them feel even more personal. I'd spend hours sitting Indian-style poring over every little nuance and writing in the liner notes. It was the perfect escape for me at that age. For all of us I'm sure.

Man, it's been so long now that sometimes I forget about those moments and what it meant to me but it always stays at my core when it comes to Pearl Jam. It's part of the reason why I will always listen to them and always give them a break if they do something I don't agree with or don't particularly like.

I can't tell if this is a post in favor of LDHO or in opposition to LDHO.

Exactly.

And I'd rather hear clean (or as clean as possible) versions of these. Without new vocals. Without hindsight lyrics. Without overdubbed solos.

Seeing Picasso's sketches doesn't take anything away from the final paintings.

they're not hard to find though. Do you need these songs?

No, but thanks. I've got them. But LD came out at a time when they weren't as easy to find. At least for someone as internet inept as I am.

Yep, Oklahoma. They played it while the crew was tending to some equipment issues. It has the odd rough spot but it's probably my favorite version.

I prefer the LD Alone and always have because I prefer Dave Krusen's drumming.

I prefer Krusen's playing too. The unreleased version from the Ten sessions (available unofficially on that "Rarities and Unreleased Cuts" working disc) is the definitive version, as far as I'm concerned. Much better than the later recording on the Go single (though I do like Ed's new vocal melody in the bridge on that one.)

I know I have that one, but I'm struggling to remember it. I'll give it a listen tonight.
