I have a real soft spot for this album.

Even though I'd been a fan since Ten, this was the first album that came out post-2000 bootlegs, which is what made me a superfan.

This was also the first PJ tour I saw (Montreal 2003). Managed to get one of the few performances of Arc and a rare performance of Ghost. :hooray:

I'm still kind of surprised at the Retrograde hate. That song is dope. If it didn't have the extended jam/outro, it wouldn't be as special, but I still like the riff and it *does* have that and translated well live.

Riot Act, for me, is a very good Pearl Jam album. In my last rankings I did, it looks like I have it as 8 out of 11, but really everything above the bottom 2 (BS and LB) is a classic album for me. That tour was pretty great. You Are blew my mind, and the versions of Crazy Mary were off the hook.

this is--imo--the last good Pearl Jam album. don't get me wrong, Gigaton is good too, but it's not Riot Act good...like start to finish good (I'm looking at you, Retrograde). forgive me for clinging to the good ol' days of the band. Yield is the last great record.

I'm still kind of surprised at the Retrograde hate. That song is dope. If it didn't have the extended jam/outro, it wouldn't be as special, but I still like the riff and it does have that and translated well live. Riot Act, for me, is a very good Pearl Jam album. YES. and i've always felt like if they would've treated the follow-up to RA that way, it would've been just as good. I've been listening to RA all day...it's been a while since I've listened straight through...and i keep hearing things i'd never heard, like bongos?...in All or None. It took me 19 years to hear them. Yikes. still...i'm with you. they sounded like a band on this album.

I don’t agree with some of this. I think Riot Act is a great album, but outside of the production issues pre-Spotify only reissue, I think the self-titled album beats it out. I have no issues with this album other than I need to be in the mood to listen to it, and many of the songs here are essential to me, but the self-titled record, when properly presented (like live), is simply killer. Same with Gigaton. But then again I am comfortable arguing that Pearl Jam has 9 great albums and 2 good albums.

I have never understood the hate and under appreciation of Riot Act! Great album. Highly underrated in my opinion.
