The sequencing of the first 6 tracks is great. Then it's a bit of a mess. Good material just shambolic sequencing.

after "you are" is when it starts to feel a bit more scattershot to me

Thumbing is a chore for me. Matt phones it in. Ed is mediocre. It's the start of Ed songs that don't belong in PJ.

i used to absolutely hate Thumbing My Way. i probably listened to it 2-3 times in five years. but something about it just clicked eventually. i completely agree that it's the beginning of those Ed songs that probably should be Ed solo songs, and maybe i would have initially liked it more had it gotten the Sleeping By Myself treatment (solo first, then full band). but Ed really does a great job at capturing a particular sadness with his guitar, especially those opening chords.

the problem i've always had with it is that it's just too wordy sometimes (except for that line where he just hums, bc why not). too many syllables being forced into a line. and yes, while i have come around on it, it's definitely quite boring if you're not in the mood for it. it's very much an of-the-moment song.

Songs I Love:

Cropduster
LBC
Can't Keep
You Are
Ghost
Help Help
Get Right
Arc

Songs That Are Just OK:

I Am Mine
Save You
Thumbing My Way
All or None

Songs I Dislike:

Green Disease
1/2 Full

Good Songs Ruined By Bad Lyrics (a theme for post-RA PJ):

Bushleaguer

15 tracks is so long for a single album. They should've just added Other Side, Down, and Undone, and made it a double album with two 9-track halves.

"Blackout weaves its way..." part is great. The rest is not my cup of tea.

One of my favourite parts of Riot Act. The instrumental intro to the song is really good too :nice:

When the I Am Mine single came out ahead of the album I enjoyed Bushleaguer a lot more than the A-side.

But it's not. It's a decent song, stip, but not remotely close to one of PJ's best.

I did come around to like IAM in the end - I'd have it in the top 20 songs post 2000, but probably not in the top 50 overall...

I don't hate IAM at all, but I don't really find it all that inspired or interesting. I'm not sure how anyone could honestly assess it as one of PJ's best. That all said, I can still enjoy the song from time to time. But it's basically the poster child for middle tier PJ.

Instead of being wrong about I Am Mine, you should go listen to that backspacer remix. Just listen to Got Some and Unthought Known and you'll want to go back for the rest
