I just came up with a re-tracking I'm gonna take for a spin. I lost two songs that I hate (IAM and TMW), and threesongs that I like well enough, but sort of kill the momentum for me (Green Disease, Bu$hleaguer, Arc). Added the three outtakes where it made the most sense.

Can't Keep
Save You
Love Boat Captain
Cropduster
Ghost
You Are
Undone
Get Right

So this was a big fail. The transition from Ghost -> You Are was great; I really didn't miss IAM and TMW at all. But the inclusion of the outtakes was just awkward. I can't imagine any other spots where they would work well. I think the band made the right choice in leaving them off the record.

Take this for a spin.... This was how I grouped the riot act era tracks in a multi-disc anthology type collection I put together. It's how I listen to my studio PJ now

2001-2004 (All Riot Act, Lost Dogs, or as noted)
Disc 7
1. Can't Keep
2. Save You
3. Love Boat Captain
4. Down
5. 1/2 Full
6. Green Disease
7. Other Side
8. Arc
9. Help Help
10. You Are
11. Thumbing My Way
12. Cropduster
13. I Am Mine
14. Man of the Hour (RVM)
15. Undone
16. Ghost
17. You've Got to Hide Your Love Away (I am Sam soundtrack, edit)
18. Last Soldier (xmas single 01, live, edit)
19. Get Right
20. Bushleaguer
21. All or None
22. 4-20-02 (Lost Dogs hidden)
Total: 78:30

Down has no business being on this record. It is too damn happy.

I always loved the vibe of Warren Zevon's "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" as a kid, and I think "Down" might be a nod to that song, or else it's a hell of a lot like it. So I don't think I could ever dislike it.

"Down" is probably akin to "Everybody Hurts" in Joey's eyes
