The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
don't get me wrong, Gigaton is good too, but it's not Riot Act good...like start to finish good (I'm looking at you, Retrograde). forgive me for clinging to the good ol' days of the band.
*Yield is the last great record.

I'm still kind of surprised at the Retrograde hate. That song is dope. If it didn't have the extended jam/outro, it wouldn't be as special, but I still like the riff and it *does* have that and translated well live.
Riot Act, for me, is a very good Pearl Jam album. In my last rankings I did, it looks like I have it as 8 out of 11, but really everything above the bottom 2 (BS and LB) is a classic album for me. That tour was pretty great. You Are blew my mind, and the versions of Crazy Mary were off the hook.

I'm willing to own up to the Retrograde outro being good. the rest of the song is pretty meh to me. I've tried. i think it breaks up what is a great run of songs when i wasn't expecting a great run of songs from this band following LB. i kind of liked the live premier of Retrograde, but again...just the outro. that song just screams LB to me. it was even written during those sessions, right?
i recently bumped RA to my number 6. I only saw two shows on the RA tour, and got: 1/2 Full, Green Disease, I Am Mine, Save You, Arc, Can't Keep, Love Boat Captain, Get Right.
would've loved to have heard You Are, Ghost, or Help Help.

This is the last album where it felt like everyone was in the same room and just cutting it loose. The mood throughout feels very much like those post-9/11 days, but the themes hold up really well today too.
YES. and i've always felt like if they would've treated the follow-up to RA that way, it would've been just as good. I've been listening to RA all day...it's been a while since I've listened straight through...and i keep hearing things i'd never heard, like bongos?...in All or None. It took me 19 years to hear them. Yikes.
still...i'm with you. they sounded like a band on this album.

I don’t agree with some of this. I think Riot Act is a great album, but outside of the production issues pre-Spotify only reissue, I think the self-titled album beats it out. I have no issues with this album other than I need to be in the mood to listen to it, and many of the songs here are essential to me, but the self-titled record, when properly presented (like live), is simply killer. Same with Gigaton. But then again I am comfortable arguing that Pearl Jam has 9 great albums and 2 good albums.
