Man I think Backspacer would be looked upon a tiny bit more favorably if the time spent promoting and touring on said record was equvilanet to the time they spent writing/arranging/recording the songs. If it were just ablip on the radar. Like a quirky release Neil did int he 80's or something. Looked upon as a little period in the bands lengthy and deep catalogue. Unfortunately - this is the record that has been on our plate for 4 years. It hasn't aged well for me. I do find some enjoyment in listening to it but knowing they are so much more capable of something greater and more unique.....bothers me...and makes me dislike Backspacer less.
Agreed. I think going "full Neil Young" would benefit Pearl Jam quite a bit. Release albums one after the other, depending on the muse. Backspacer would be remembered for what is really is, a fun diversion, rather than a lasting document of Pearl Jam circa 2009-2013.

Jeff talks mostly about RNDM but he also mentioned his sideproject :
Quote:
RNDM's long-term schedule may depend on Pearl Jam's; the band recently had a meeting with Brendan O'Brien and followed up on sessions a year ago in Stone Gossard's studio and has announced apair of summer dates. "There's a lot of ideas kind of floating around right now," says Ament. "I mean, the cool thing about taking a year away from [Pearl Jam] is, you know, we could almost start from scratch and it wouldn't really be that big of a deal, you know? I hope it comes out this year at some point. But, if it doesn't, we have another RNDM record ready. If RNDM's my band for the next year, I'm stoked."
I like that he said that they could 'start from scratch'..could be something this band need. Reinvent yourselves..
January 2011 - Jeff claims the band have a disc of 25 demos to be worked on further in 2011 April 2011 - recording sessions in LA with Brendan O'Brien September 2011 - Olé released (presumably from the April 2011 sessions) Late 2012 - session at Studio Litho in Seattle with Brendan O'Brien
Jeff interview from October 2012: "There’s probably 15 songs that are fairly close to finished. There’s another 15 that are in other forms."
They've been in the studio at least twice with Brendan, perhaps three times if they held any other sessions during 2012, they have around 15 near-to-complete songs - is there any desire to actually finish the album? Again, I can't help but think Jeff is clearly frustrated by the slow pace of work and, as he says, would be stoked to put Pearl Jam back on the shelf and get back to work with RNDM. He can't be that excited about what he's hearing on the Pearl Jam recordings if he'd be pleased to throw them out and start again.
I'd much prefer a steady stream of EPs and one-off singles than holding onto songs that might be three years or more old by the time they eventually get released.

Pearl Jam and the Wallflowers at the same festival. What if...
Didn't that already happen at DeLuna last year?
Maybe, I don't keep track.
I guess if it didn't happen at PJ20, it's probably not going to happen.
Also, Ed would still be singing the same way.
True, but this still sounds pretty great, modern Vedder and all:
Ed's gotten a lot worse since 2007.
Yeah, he has.
Still, I wouldn't exactly be disappointed in seeing Jack behind the drums for Pearl Jam again. Even if Ed sounds terrible, at least there'd be nothing else to complain about.
