This is an amazing cover. How is this the only official Pearl Jam The Who cover?

(I’m assuming by official you mean “studio recording”)

They credit it to The High Numbers, which was just what The Who called themselves before they changed their name

Scratch that — it’s originally a Holland-Dozier-Holland tune, which I knew but forgot

The live version during the Who tribute is one of the band's (and Eddie's) all-time great performances.

it is, but I think Real Me may have even topped it. Their best live 1-2 ever? Did the Unplugged Porch and Black happen back to back?

I totally forgot that they played that too. I actually got to hear it in person back in 2011. Jeff is one of the few rock bassists who could truly do it justice.

Great as it was..One of the performances that pretty much changed Ed's voice forever, imo

I saw both of those covers in Chicago on 8/23/09 -- both during the first encore, almost back to back, but for a flub-ridden version of "Life Wasted" sandwiched between them. I hadn't seen the VH1 thing and had no idea that "The Real Me" was part of the repertoire, so it was a pleasant surprise.

It’s amazing, but Id definitely put Animal/RITFW at the MTV awards above that; and maybe Daughter/RVM on SNL as well. Both of those showcase the band better, while the Who covers are probably Eddie’s finest public performance.

60’s drums always sound so big and open.

You are out of control. Someone needs to look below the surface of stip and help him! PJ's version of Real Me was awful. I think it was the 09 tour where I got it like 6 our of 9 shows or something like that. Awful.

Shut up. He's talking about the who tribute performance and that performance is fucking lights out one of the best things theyve done.
