Parting Ways is a litmus test for “your tastes are reasonable” vs “your fandom has clouded your vision.” Song is rear end.
Not to derail, but this is an endlessly fascinating subject to me. I don't think I could ever argue convincingly that my fandom hasn't profoundly clouded my vision of Pearl Jam, and/or any number of other artists whose music I've loved and followed closely for a long period of time. I think this could be a really enjoyable thread premise, not necessarily just in regards to PJ, if people were interested in having the conversation.
Regardless, I'm a big fan of "Parting Ways" (and "Habit," and "NAIS"). All of that stuff is right in the PJ sweet spot for me.
Binaural used to be my least favorite album until Lightning Bolt came out. I don’t care for the first 3 songs at all. Evacuation being the worst. Not a fan of the production too. However, Binaural has one of my top favorite songs, Light Years. Other good ones for me are Grievance and Insignificance. I think if replaced half of the songs on this album with some of the outtakes on Lost Dogs (Sad, Fatal, In the Moonlight….) this would have been a much better album in my opinion.
My preferred Binaural experience is to pop Of the Girl as the album opener, replace Gods' Dice with Sad, replace Evacuation with Education, then tag Fatal onto the end of the album.
If there were ever going to be a double album for Pearl Jam, this would have been a good one. Binaural plus all those Lost Dogs would be an even better album.
I know most here seem to love Binaural as is, but I like the original track listing better. Overall though, this might be my favorite time period for the fellas.

If anything, we need the expanded Binaural.
Yes indeed
