I didn't think this deserved its own thread, so putting it here. His Radiohead book was alright, so I might read this.

just based off the description, it seems a bit like this book: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=16144

Will probably buy it. Finally read Five Against One recently and it was interesting, especially the inner workings of the band during the Dave A. years.

I tend to like Hyden's takes in general, though we often differ on specifics. I'll definitely read his Pearl Jam book. I bet it'll have a ton of insight.

I also like Hyden & will read. But I was disappointed in the podcast series he did on them a few years back. Pretty shallow overall, so my expectations for the book are low-ish.

Just finished listening to a call-in segment on local public radio about protecting plants from the upcoming freeze. Garden was the bumper music.

Pearl Jam(‘s people) sent our local hard rock radio station, 99.9 KISW, a dozen cupcakes with PJ logo on them this morning for the station’s 50th anniversary.

This station plays 21 Pilots now, by the way.

The station just gave a shout out to Greta Van Fleet on their Facebook page.

Yes, this is my feeling as well. Maybe it will change with the extended research I'm sure he's going to do, but considering the amount of time he spent on that podcast series, his takes on Pearl Jam are Wikipedia-deep. He also seemed way too entrenched in being only able to understand PJ through the prism of the early 90s; I understand, as that was when he was a teenager and really enveloped in the Nirvana vs. PJ thing, but it just skewed his vision. I kind of remember the one highlight was the Binaural/Riot Act episode, where the person had a perspective of the band that wasn't really shackled to the early years, and Hyden seemed flummoxed by it.

Yesterday, I picked up my daughter’s first birthday balloons from the space previously occupied by Stanley’s in Chicago. It’s a party store now.

Due to covid, I entered into a side door to a back room. I bet those walls have stories.

There’s a sample on the new Your Old Droog album, it’s someone talking about going out to Pearl Jam shows and getting tossed around in the crowd. It’s a basketball player and it definitely does not sound like Rodman.

I was down a rabbit hole reading about unusual suicides and came across Evelyn McHale who jumped off the Empire State Building observation deck in 1947. Her body landed on a car and a photography student took a photo that was dubbed "the most beautiful suicide".

I never knew that it was drawn as the bottom right illustration on the Backspace cover.

Here's the wiki article - it's very sad and not just because she committed suicide - she requested no service and no memorial of any sort.

I remember learning that all of the Backspacer drawings were references and that one in particular fascinated me. Maybe my favorite thing about that album.

I'm working on a project involving skateparks for work. Just for fun the other day I thought I'd look up Jeff's foundation to see if I could drop them an email to see if they would want to be involved. Last night I had a dream that one of the other guys on the project knew Jeff, brought him on board and arranged a phone call between us. I told him that he was the best Pearl Jammer, that I loved Quick Escape, and that Safe in the Car should have been on Gigaton. He laughed and asked me if I liked to skate and I said no, it's not for me. And that was that.

If our own dreams about PJ count for this thread, buckle up guys. I could write a book.
