Luckily not of the Randy Newman and/or Frank Zappa variety.

Favorite song on Backspacer.

it's more in the golden tradition of Buster Keaton and Laurel & Hardy with a touch of American Pie.

Some say the band are still playing it now, their tired eyes looking forlornly at the control room glass, waiting for a reprieve that will never come.

This song is really killing it right now... Songs like this (along with GSMF and MFS to name a few) are reasons why I'll still get excited about a new PJ album even if my overall expectations are very low

I give this one 3 stars. I don't really get the love for it, but it's not a bad song. I don't think I really like Ed's delivery, which is really my problem with a lot of new PJ. The music is kinda fun though.

A solid 4 star song. In the upper echelon of post-Riot Act songs.

4 stars. Great song, especially coming after The Fixer. JG batting cleanup.

Said this recently in yet another thread I likely hijacked with an entirely random in the moment PJ thought, but, to me, the music is the middle-aged equivalent of Stone's "rhythmic things that butt up against each other."

I could see some not enjoying the lyrics, and, while you'd never call Pearl Jam a "fun" band, there are definitely moments sprinkled throughout the catalog. Folks may not enjoy the humor of this one, but, I'm glad it's there. I find it to be a welcome change of pace and a little splash of color

Johnny Guitar made me realize I like vagina references in songs, just as DOTC made me realize I like dick references in songs too.

I get this, and of course it makes sense as JG is a rare Gossard/Cameron co-write.

I could definitely do with some more melding of their respective sensibilities.

Agreed. Would certainly not object to more co-writing efforts there. First thing I check for on any new PJ album are the writing credits.
