of all the band's lesser played songs, why no way is among them is a mystery to me.

I think it's one of the few pearl jam songs that sounds worse live. They never really got it to sound right.

Agreed, it’s very much a studio production. But I wish they could find a compelling live approach

I'm not about to combine No Code and Yield, now or ever

I liked the No Code/Yield combination exercise but Vitalogy/No Code might make a better pairing.

No Code/Yield makes sense with Jack Irons being the connective tissue, but sonically, Vitalogy and No Code work better together.

I believe you are officially allowed 14, yes. But I'm more of a 13-track album kind of guy

No Code and Vitalogy go better together sonically in some respects, but No Code and Yield go better together thematically and vibe-wise. No Code is a more introspective album like Yield than is Vitalogy, plus it has a similar sound to yield in the drums and Eddie’s vocals. No Code really is an in-between sound shift that has elements of Vitalogy and yield. The angrier parts of no code go well with Vitalogy and the more introspective parts of it go well with yield. Yield is the hardest album to pair vibe-wise with anything, but I think the “No Yield” collection I made works well.

Here’s what I would pair between Vitalogy and No Code. I’ll give it a listen later and see if it needs adjustment. I actually didn’t take the angrier songs of no code because they’re not my favorites and Vitalogy has that covered. What I like about this order is it shifts from angry, confused, unsure of identity, to an increasing self awareness and purpose.

1. Sometimes
2. Last Exit
3. STBC
4. In My Tree
5. Smile
6. Nothingman
7. Corduroy
8. Red Mosquito
9. Not For You
10. Hail Hail
11. Who You Are
12. Better Man
13. Present Tense
14. Immortality

One thing we don’t talk about enough is the extent to which Dave was able to reign in his busy drumming for Vitalogy. It’s almost like a different drummer at times.

Ironically enough, it was a different drummer at times!

I mean there are many variations we could do, but I venture that the self-titled album actually pairs best with Yield, and in turn, Gigaton as well. I can’t 100% say why, but I feel like those three could make a bangin’ list that flows really well.

Why not make a career retrospective that flows like an album?

Do you want to make a 14 track album from all 11 plus b-sides!? I need at least 50 tracks for that.
