I've never heard this song live. And I love it desperately. Listening to this though I can see and hear they just aren't into it live. It just doesn't happen live

The a version on the Gems & Rhinestones mix isn't bad. This was always one of my favorites from Backspacer. The bridge is one of the highlights of the record for me.

This is the same version from that mix. It's just Ed, Stone and Boom in the video.

Glad that you liked it! ridleybradout's Australian mixes are some of my favorites.

I freakin' love this song. It shouldn't work; the riff is kind of mediocre, Ed can't really sing it to its full potential, and it lacks the intensity it probably deserves, but it just works. The lyrics and the sentiment just carry it through.

I agree. The part where he sings "Makes me shake, makes me ache.." was something new and nice to the catalog. There was just so many lyrics in the song and they were almost constant, so I can see where this would be a challenge to pull off live.

The bridge. It has this bittersweet delivery going on with the vocals and guitar that lifts the song. It didn't really sound like anything else that I can think of.

Makes me ache
Makes me shake
Is it so wrong to think that
Love can keep us safe?

this song has several of the hallmarks of bad modern pearl jam:

- There are too many god damn lyrics
- Ed's voice sounds like an asshole spitting out its last remaining droplets following an explosive diarrhea
- Matt's drums are generic, uninspiring, and offensive to individuals that believe in the dignity of human life
- The "guitar solo" is a brief, corny cliché

The biggest problem with the live performances are that they're slightly too fast. If it were slowed down a tad, the song would have a better chance of matching up to the studio performance. I listened to it just now and it sounds a LOT better.

A talk box away from being a Bon Jovi song.

I know where you're coming from on this, I really do, but if Jon Bongiovi ever came up with lyrics like that of Force of Nature his fans would pray for a quick death instead of life with an overwhelmed brain.

This one has grown a lot on me lately. Id probably consider it the best song from the last 2 records right now.

Very good modern Pearl Jam song. The first live video in this thread is awful for Pearl Jam. The second is better, but nowhere close to the studio version.
