Tonight at Fenway was not as bad as I thought. I always end up encountering the same people at every Pearl Jam show:
1. I always end up sitting next to a guy who's from either Maine or Vermont or upstate New York who ends up being extremely talkative. Tonight, he was from Maine; he told me all about his four year old who's at home and about the drama he went through with his brother and friends when it came to getting tickets. 2. There's always someone in a row in front of me who turns around and tells a very weird story. Tonight, it was a guy who turned to my buddy and me and told us a very strange story about a little person who pretended to be Peter Dinklage so he could have sex with tons of women. This was apropos of absolutely nothing. 3. We always have a close encounter with a really drunk person who's making a bad decision. Tonight, it was a young woman who tried to get in a cab with a stranger, but, to his credit, her verbally abusive boyfriend made sure she didn't (he did use some racial slurs to refer to the driver, so credit revoked).
All of these people were harmless, though. Everybody had a good time, whether you were a superfan or just there to hang out and smoke weed.

I had read that this occurs, but friday night was the first time I encountered this: during the show, 2 different people at Fenway had on their phone what was (I assume) a picture of that night's handwritten setlist. What the fuck is up with that?
I guess it would be helpful if one was plotting a 20+ min excursion to deal with the huge beer lines, but I doubt that's what these people were doing.

I understand what you mean about planning a piss break. Or it could be helpful if, for travel or other reasons, you wanted to leave before the 2nd encore unless the setlist showed something wildly unexpected.
But let's be honest, there's a difference between not caring about being spoiled and actively seeking out that information.
