I really, really wish I had high quality copies of Cold Confession and Let It Ride so I can piece together the post Riot Act album that I want to listen to.

I'm gonna test Brendan O'Brien's theory about it being a double album at some point, possibly getting rid of Supersonic but it depends how I feel on the day.
I'm not going to do this anymore. I don't think any of the Backspacer songs stack up against these ones, and even the ones I like wouldn't sound right against them. There's a much fuller / less tinny production to these songs than the Backspacer ones.

Poor Backspacer.
It's a more consistent listen than LB. Not as many peaks but not as many troughs either.
This ends up being a more consistent listen for me thus far. I never liked listening to supersonic very much, and speed of sound was a drag at first. I think this will end up trumping Backspacer for me, but I've had 4 years to develop attachments to most of those songs, so it's hard to tell.
I do think that Backspacer felt like a more cohesive listen, at least thus far.

when I would make mix cds I'd double up records for everything after vitalogy. So No Code and Yield would go together and Binaural and Riot Act would go together. S/T never really fit with Riot Act or Backspacer.

1. Pendulum 2. Lightning Bolt 3. Mind Your Manners 4. Got Some 5. Infallible 6. Unthought 7. Just Breathe 8. Sirens 9. Getaway 10. MFS 11. Force of Nature 12. Speed of Sound 13. Future Days 14. Yellow Moon
I took a quick stab... I like an opener that's spacey like Pendulum and Can't Keep. Then, let's rock for a couple tracks, throw in something interesting, then some pretty stuff, then crank it up a bit, and then a gradual descent.
I know 14 is a bit list... but the BS songs were short so it should work.

what became really surprising after listening to lightning bolt is just how similar so many of these songs are. It's not that they feel like retreads. they don't (not to me). But it's rare we see pearl jam attempt another take on an idea in such close proximity. An attempt not to reprise a song, but to revise it.
GSMF and Getaway feel somewhat similar. Fast paced playful openers.
Got Some and MYM feel similar.
MFS and Got Some feel similar
Unthought Known, The Fixer, and Lightning Bolt feel similar.
While sonically different, Sirens is another attempt at Just Breathe. And just breathe and sleeping by myself sound related.
The end and future days feel similar.
Yellow Moon and Speed of Sound feel similar.
Lightning Bolt and Swallowed Whole and Force of Nature, in some ways, feel similar
LTRP and Supersonic are two songs about how great music is. LTRP and Johnny Guitar don't feel light years apart either.
Amongst the Waves and Sirens have some similarities.
Really infallible and pendulum are the only two songs on here that you can't really trace back to backspacer in somway. This is especially odd since pendulum was actually part of those sessions.
