That's not totally fair. Thematically they're pretty similar, and they are each songs full of musical choices that are usually outside pearl jam's wheelhouse.
That's the point I'm making. These are all good songs, to varying degrees, but they sound totally different to one another. People are grouping Sirens and Just Breathe just because they think both songs suck, which is a bit silly.

"Bad songs" is the category in which they're being grouped, how is that silly?

When people list "songs I personally think are bad", they're doing it with the assumption that people will share their opinion on which songs go in the "shit list". That in itself is not silly, but when there's very little in common between the songs musically, it stands to reason that someone would ask why those songs are being grouped together.

Example, I've never said "Man, FD is as bad as Red Dot", even though I don't like either of them. It wouldn't make much sense.

They are? That seems kind of absurd.
If someone were to say something like "...this is as bad as those other shitty Pearl Jam songs, Come Back and Force of Nature" they're surely only communicating that they personally don't care for the two songs not mentioned; there's nothing there to suggest any other relevant link between the two songs or a presumption that this is a universally-held belief.
In any event, in reference to my off-hand remark that sparked this diversion, I think both Just Breathe and Sirens are mawkishly sentimental ballads featuring prominent acoustic guitar. They're clearly different songs in many respects but they share some obvious similarities. Those similarities, however, had nothing to do with the statement I made; the only relevant information to be gleaned here is that I don't think either of them is very good.
You're seeing things that aren't there (and arguing about them).

it makes sense to compare bad songs if you're talking about bad songs. If you're looking for reasons why songs fit together that's a pretty bad category to use

OK, maybe. I was finding it difficult to articulate what I meant and didn't do it very well. The original post that started this off was seemingly implying that "Sirens" was bad in the same ways as "Just Breathe." If I'm wrong about that, my bad, but I would question why Sirens was as bad as Just Breathe for similar reasons, because they're nothing alike. But if they're both bad just because they're both bad... then fine, I guess.

I'll play.
I am looking at it as en extended single playlist, limited to fit on one audio disc. I included Santa Cruz, Ole, and the Speed of Sound demo. I left out The Fixer (I absolutely hate that song), Future Days, and Supersonic

OK, yeah, I can see them going together in terms of lyrics and sentiment. It's weird that I care so much about lyrics but don't often group songs together based on lyrics. Others seem to more than me.
