Listened to Ukulele Songs for the first time in forever. That version of SBM is so much better than the LB version. It was a fun little experiment as a b side or something, but they should have just changed the lyrics and made an all new song or something. Or nothing.

SBM should of been a b-side agreed. Maybe LTRP eventhough I like the song it doesn't really fit.
Of the earth on the other hand would of fit perfectly. Although I imagine a BOB version of Of The Earth would be horrible even worse than BOBs Lightning Bolt.

I really like the full band version much better. Whether if fits on LB or not is another discussion, but just comparing SMB on Uke Songs vs. LB, the LB version wins easily.

Of The Earth should have absolutely made LB. It would have brought it from a meh album to right above average in my book. Even with it included, there is plenty on the album I don't like.

I could agree if we're throwing out the lyrics and solely looking at the music, but I just think those lyrics are much better suited to the simple sparseness of the ukulele.

Listened to this one on my way to the office. The first 4 songs are so fucking good. I love ed's vocals on all of them. LB the song should have been better...the fadeout and the production really hurt the studio version..After those pretty much every song is more or less ok, with some good things and bad ones. Except Pendulum, Sleeping By Myself and Yellow Moon, those 3 are gems. And then its Future Days, the worst pj song in their catalogue.
The album itself its a mixed bag. Its their first record that sound like the previous one and at the same time its very uneven in the collection of songs, but when it good its right up there with their best material.

yeah i hate it when it was announced but this version is so much better than ed´s. Still feels weird to have it this way. Maybe as a b side it could have been better.

This is a really valid point and something I come back to a lot. Though, I like LB more than Backspacer, I do think it's interesting how much the go together. At times they feel like the same sessions.

I think it sounds better than BS, Ed sounds better and the production is better but yeah, its pretty much the same approach sonically. Its a shame the band seems to have lost the interest on sounding different from what they did in the previous album.
