I forgot how powerful this song is when played loudly..... "I used to try and kill love, it was the highest sin.. breathing insecurity out and in" "Let me run into the rain ...to be a human light again" "oh, life comes from within your hopes and desire" ...song makes me cry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOmRTkiGb24 |

It's one of the better moments on that record. Musically especially. Don't understand all the shit it gets. |

Those lyrics make me cry too, but for entirely different reasons. |

The better half of the lyrics to this song are just fine, but the lower half are immeasurably bad. Like, "how is this on any record ever" bad. And I understand that that just comes from Mike not being someone who writes a lot of lyrics, and it being such a personal song that others couldn't do much to edit it...but it's still bad. Also, there's an "overcomposed" quality to the music and structure that, when delivered with such emotive bombast, both feels too prog for my tastes and is not altogether sincere sounding. If they wanted this type of song on the album, they should have made it to the pinnacle statement of all of the political rhetoric that led up to it, and then replaced Gone with a more heartfelt personal (and perhaps atmospheric) Mike-penned song. |

Its not that all the lyrics are bad. But the worse lines are the same ones that are sung more than once. |

i still love this one. It reminds me of Zepellin in the way it builds..and its a great closer to ST. |

Agreed. With a better mix and cleaner production, and some very easy lyrical/theme adjustments, (not even much melodic adjustment), this could have been one of their greatest tunes. And yes, Gone suffers from a similar fate, i.e. nice structure and music, poor everything else. |

I'd disagree with the overcomposed point. To me the rest of the album sounds really forced and contrived. Pearl jam trying far too hard to sound like pearl jam. Inside job is the only moment for me where it sounds like PJ in a natural effortless sense. Force of nature does the same thing whereas amongst the waves sounds forced. If that makes sense. |

How I choose to hear Inside Job's lyrics. Underneath this smile lies everything All my hopes and anger, pride and shame Make myself a pact, to not to shut doors on the past just for today,... I am free I might lose my faith It's an inside job today I know this one thing well,... I used to try and kill love, it was the highest sin breathing insecurity out and in Searching hope, I'm shown the way to run straight pursuing the greater way for all,... human life. I choose to feel,... as I am. I choose to feel,... as I am. I might lose my faith It's an inside job today Holding on, the light of night On my knees to rise and face my broken sword Again. Let me run into the rain To be a human light again Let me run into the rain To shine a human light today Life comes from within your heart and desire Life comes from within my heart and desire Life comes from within your heart and desire |
