Fuck it. This song is maybe better than spin the black circle.
Easy, slugger...You're cut off for the night. Sleep it off.

I’m enjoying running more than dark matter now. Running is so damn fun where it fits on the album. I can’t believe I don’t really notice this before, but the part at the beginning of the bridge, where Eddie sings “take off” and Jeff plays that slide down the bass, the whole band drops out for a second, and the sound of that bass with “take off” gives a sense of floating in space during the brief suspension, and it’s such a brilliant deliberate choice, right before Matt’s drums kick back in and bring it all back down to earth.
I avoided this when it was released a single and had some reservations going in based on the reactions, but I love it — it’s quite a little journey in just over two minutes.
They really go all in at that toilet metaphor though — maybe the song is a coy nod to RM’s poop thread?

I'm firmly in the camp of whatever this song is doing. Jeff's bass propels it and the lyrics are fun. That's good enough for me. I want to hear it live.

Welp. Just heard this live on the Stern interview, and they killed it. I guess I'm coming around to it, so this album is basically perfect.
The last piece in the jigsaw which kept it from flawless
