i'm still just not feeling the transition to the outro. it feels like it needs to do some more work before it gets there.

and i'm not convinced that an ending like that was the direction the song should've gone in anyway

it needs one more go-around of the chord structure, maybe a break in the music, a fill, something

never mind

I can't believe they wrote this song in 2024.

One of the best they've ever written.

i think one of the best parts of this song and record is that transition to the outro....but not because i love the outro...

I love the way Ed holds and pulls and drags that last "haaaaayaaaand" right before it takes off. Great space filling. Very old school Ed. He sounds so great.

I'm guessing Andrew Watt has helped them a lot with the transitions. Melodically and from a song's structure point of view, this record is outstanding.

I have zero issues with going into the outro at the point, that's awesome, but I do think Matt goes into that doubled-up version of the outro (snares on 2 and 4) a tiny bit too early

agreed. i'm considering the outro to be the point where they go double time

and i'm just like.. woah woah.. hold on a second guys

haha yep, but it's fine

it's frustrating because it's those tiny little arrangement nuances that I used to think they did perfectly

I love the conversation about Upper Hand from Zane, but wished he asked a few more questions about this one. I'd love to hear Ed talk about the lyrics and how the whole thing came together.

Edit: this time with actual link

Isolated guitar (and with it, the piano) at the end of upper hand.
