U2 post Atchung has amazing albums… The Stones too.
PJ discography is nearly flawless to me; I do wish they had at least two or three more records though
That’s more like it. My intention is to take a short sabbatical (I mean, that’s what it is at this point) from the live albums to listen through the catalogue again, in maybe a slightly different way, to lead into Dark Matter. Relive my youth leading into this thing for a proper hype up for this album.

With this album at this stage in the bands career, I'm just hoping for a few songs that have that "magic" Basically, PJ songs that only PJ can make; songs that remind me of why I love this band. Every album has had it's moments...Gigaton was really surprising and had the following
DOTC Quick Escape Alright 7'Oclock Buckle Up Comes Then Goes
All of the above are killer songs (in my opinion) and songs that I actually seek out and go back to. Out of all the albums since ST....Gigaton had the most.
Lightning Bolt & Backspacer have barely any of those songs & I hardly ever get the urge to go back and listen to those albums.
I don't think PJ have made a truly perfect album since Yield. Binaural is debatable - The backside of that album is actually one of my favorite run of songs ever Riot Act comes close too. Love Boat Captain, Thumbing my Way, 1/2 Full, You Are & All Or None are all top tier songs for me, but the album as a whole just has too many mediocre songs sandwiched in between the classics. The shitty songs on Riot Act are songs that I probably haven't listened to or have wanted to listen to for over 20 years now.
This stage in the bands career is kind of like The Who post Keith Moon, the Stones post Exile, & U2 post Achtung Baby It's a period where you'll get some real great songs from time to time but mostly just a bunch of misses, formulaic, or just plain awful and uninspired songs.
Bukowski once wrote about the difficulty of now being a millionaire, and still trying to write like a hobo:
"As the sprit wanes, the form appears"
This may be the problem with modern day PJ
Solid gold post. Even a reference to the vaunted Hank Chinaski.

Yes! I actually prepped a little in my nerdiness for this by creating Spotify playlists to tackle the catalogue in a slightly organized fashion, but with intention to handle it slightly differently.

I wonder why there weren't any follow ups on that Something Special snippet anywhere.
I mean, they already sort of leaked it in that sports broadcast
I thought there were gonna be more song snippets for the March Madness basketball but those haven't emerged either
Really feels like they’ve slept on the promotion thus far.
Seemed a lot more deliberate and purposeful with Gig. It’s been very disjointed and random with DM. It feels like they’re kind of making it up as they go along. And I’m not even sure who “they” is. Is Kelly Curtis still their guy that makes these decisions?

Go frame by frame and you can see some lyrics from upper hand toward the end.
The rest look to be blurred but, I def see
“Lonely ship” and “silhouette “ which you can clearly make out in metal door clip 4.
Good sleuthing. So where are we at with titles attached to the snippets?
In order:
React, Respond Wreckage DM (obviously) Upper Hand Won’t Tell WFS Something Special (obviously) Got to Give
There are your 8 clips. We’ve heard zippy from SOF and Setting Sun. Running of course is out.
That gets you to the magic # 11.
Awesome. Thank you. Based on this, out of what we've heard I am most looking forward to WFS (that moment in the snippets where the tension releases is just fantastic), Got to Give (snippet ends just as it sounds like a righteous jam is about to start) and React, Respond. I think Upper Hand could be interesting, and I am extremely curious about SOF and Setting Sun.
