Why Go-Deep have been much more enjoyable than Once-Alive.

I agree, I still really like Ten. I don't know how old Leatherhead is, but it's an interesting thought how a lot of people around 30-40 probably really hated or didn't "get" Pearl Jam when they first hit the scene.

I'm 28. Started listening to PJ at about 17, I think. Ten was an easy favorite for quite a while.

well goddammit thanks for blowing my theory.

but alas ... i have several older work friends (who would have been about 35 when PJ hit) who all seem to have pretty varied, but good (my definition) tastes in music. And all of them hated the whole PJ, Nirvana, AIC, Soundgarden, alt-90s thing. Wondering if I was 35 when Ten came out if I would have liked it as much, or at all?

I'm with you. I can't listen to two songs in a row from this record without feeling like I need a pep talk just to keep going. A few tracks still sound really good to me, but mostly this thing has felt like a chore for most of my adult life.

Well, shit. I thought about doing an LAL for this album after finishing Lost Dogs, and now I'm thinking about doing it again. I think it's calling to me. Should I find the 'official' LAL thread, or just do it here?

the thread is in the index

other than garden this album still feels vibrant and powerful - even the over the top moments are redeemed by the optimism and sincerity underneath them. it is such a passionate and driven album.

Ten songs just never feel old

I've actually never liked garden - going all the way back to 1991.

All this Ten talk got me to give this a spin yesterday. Man, what a fucking album. Eddie's voice really was incredible in its prime. Every song is great. Sometimes I almost think it's crazy that we rank any other PJ album above this (I still do, but sometimes it does seem crazy). For some reason, "Alive" hit me hard emotionally this time, despite having heard it 500 times before.

I listened a few months ago and returned yesterday because of this thread...and i have the same feeling LV, this is such an incredible album. The band sounds loose yet tight, every song is fuckin good and you can sense the urgency, the need they had for something...The groove is just..i have no words, is a mix between classic rock and Janes Addiction. And Eddie is just huge here.

If you add the story of how this got made, its just more interesting. Hails down to Ten.

I think Eddie's "hey hey yeah yeah yeah" breakdown at the end of "Once" might be my favorite moment on this album.
