This is a fair point. Most bands have the same songwriters for their entire career. Pearl Jam started out with Jeff and Stone writing the music and Stone in particular as the musical director. By album #3 Ed was writing more and then took alot of control on #4. The band seemingly went to a writers workshop beginning with #5 where they tried to get at least 2 songs from everyone. This has more or less been the operating method since but it is understood Ed will get more songs on the album.

So for this particular band this a tough one to answer.

I remember i had this friend who loved them with Ten-Vs-Vitalogy, came back exited with Yield and couldnt pass Gods Dice from Binaural...he was like, man this is shit.

He told me then, that Dave Matthews Band was ¨the evolution of Pearl Jam¨

What is the biggest difference in the band’s sound and songwriting between 2 albums?

I’m sure the obvious answer is Vitalogy to No Code. But I’d be willing to argue Ten to Vs

I’d say Yield > Binaural

That's because it's a bad song

Yes, whenever someone else sings, like Whale Song, Mankind, Don’t Gimme No Lip, Sweet Lew. Gremmie Out Of Control though, really different.

For better or worse, Let The Records Play sounds like Pearl Jam trying to be a bar band, and The PJ version of Sleeping By Myself, is especially saccharine.

I don't usually condone beating but I think I'd comfortably watch this happen without feeling compelled to intervene
